Shockingly superior
Brought my 997 C4 in for service again (another story altogether) and was given a 991 C2 as a loaner. Agate PDK, sports exhaust. I've stood by the sidelines reading the 997/991 debates for months. Had convinced myself that the 991, with its larger size and electronic gizmos, couldn't be that much better than the 997. I believed those who wrote that it was too much of a "GT' ride. Wow, I couldn't have been more wrong. The 991 puts my 997 to shame. Faster, better road feel, more refined, better noises. Did I mention better noises. It is also substantially more fun and subjectively faster than the 997 C2S that I had as a loaner a month ago. (Although faster than my C4, the PDK 997.2 C2S was such a disappointment.) The 991 is the first of many PDK Porsches I have driven that is actually entertaining to drive. I'm not sure how Porsche made PDK in the 991 so much more engaging than in all of the previous PDK Panameras, 997's, and Cayennes that I have had as loaners.
I don't think that I want to spend 60+K to upgrade, but congratulations to all of those who made the purchase.

Glad you had fun with it. I love mine, and am sure you will love yours! Let us know your build. No matter how happy we are with our builds, it's lots of fun to see the different ones out there.

That's the problem of driving something you are not ready to buy. It just sits there in the back of your mind and ferments.

In my mind the 991 is a game changer. I was always a Porsche and 911 fan. But didn't have the ***** to get a 911 with the engine in the back, so I settled for Boxster which I like but never really fell in love with it. Now enter this 991, major crush. It definitely takes the 911 to another level !
Remember the 997 days, where the Audi R8 eclipsed it and made it look old fashioned. Well the 991 does the same to the R8 now in my book. The 991 is awesome ! Sooooo versatile, sooooo many faces. Sporty, classy, comfy, heritage, history, ... An engineering marvel with soul and passion that eclipses most others !

Your dealer gives Porsche loaners for service??? At best, the dealers in Florida might allow Enterprise to bring a rental car to the dealership that you pay for.

I am selling my 997 and recently took it in for a PPI and can't believe how much I like the 991 over it. I felt none of that when I went from 996 to 997 (other than liking the headlights again).

After my 996TT I honestly expected to be done with Porsche - with the vastly superior 991, Porsche got my money again!
Any owner of a 996/997 era car who still prefers it after a 991 test drive is definitely in denial!

They'll give me a loaner every time I'm in - even if it's for a tech inspection for a track event. They'll keep my car overnight for a free inspection, and give me a loaner. GREAT service.
The fact that I've bought 5 Porsches from them in the last 6 years may have some bearing...
At the same dealership, when I drove an Audi... they wouldn't give me a loaner or a ride, because I lived and worked too far away. I had to take my bike on the roof to ride home (20 miles) when I dropped off my car.
