After a few spy pics on the new Targa things have went quiet. Has anyone heard anything on the car? Is it still going to be made and if so what is the expected release date?

Here's a thread that does a good job of "revealing" the dev mule. Looks pretty good. If it has a "hatch" I think it could be a usefully versatile daily driver.

Same spy shots for like months now! It really needs a hatch to differentiate from the Cab but from what i can see doubt that will happen. A couple of months before release. I guess this is either coming in the summer or next year. Either way its not going to spoil Porsche's 991 Turbo release so it will be spaced accordingly. Looks like the last Targa was a summer release with fall/winter deliveries - I am expecting this one to be the same.

back in the 90's I drove a two-seat Honda Civic Del Sol with a removable roof that slid into a compact rack in the rear of the car and the rear window had a power retract. (still makes me grin to this day, that was totally awesome!) I adored that car and drove it back and forth across the USA many times.
I would love something like that with the Targa but am sure Porsche will design things many times better, whatever it ends up being!

I have had the power retract rear window now on two relative modern cars - an '07 BMW 650 Vert and current R8 Spyder. Sure is a neat feature!

"The 'targa' panel section is already on the cabrio. Underneath the fabric cover is a hard composite roof panel. From the drawings it appears that the top of the roof bar telescopes upwards to let the targa panel slide beneath it then retract rearwards to stow under the clam behind the rear seats as it does on the cabrio. The roof bar will then presumably close back down leaving the original roll hoop look. The parts of the roll bar that appear to remain attached to the rear glass are likely just the decorative side panels that hide the hydraulic mechanism, that allows the top of the bar to lift up and down, when the roof cycle of opening or closing is completed.
It should be quite a cost effective system to engineer as it appears to use the same Z frame roof scissor frame section and same rear clam opening mechanism as the cabrio. Presumably the rear glass window will have to be made from fairly lightweight material (polycarbonate perhaps?). The lifting targa roof bar is the new and more complex part of the design.
I've done a quick sketch to show this movement."
Clever chap, Izuk!

I'm expecting the rear section retracting like the current convertible roof, and the targa section being manually removable. If so no doubt threads will start immediately about how much more pure and involving it is compared to the cabriolet...

I actually like the potential of the Targa if Porsche takes it back to its "roots" like the rendering of the Red one in post #4. I felt that the 996 and 997 versions of the Tagra were more of a "hatch back" than a Targa.
