A 991 Targa "soft window" would be just about perfect. Start with the glass hatch and removable composite roof element, hang those in the garage, some clever tension "sail" sort of design for the soft rear and roof. Ideal!
My criteria for the Targa:
* Coupe tub, not shared with the Cabrio (the upright rear seats in the Cabrio are too cramped for the kids.)
* 4S wide body with rear hatch access to cargo space behind rear seats
* No weight gain over coupe (certainly not as heavy as the Cab.)
Hopefully by the time they have the Targa in production, they'll have some shared engineering in the parts bin from the GT3 (front suspension geometry and steering software, maybe even rear-steer will be an option instead of PDCC just as a f'rinstance.)

I'll confess that I honestly don't see the point in the Targa, given the advanced state of development the Cabriolet has reached. I remember reading a lot of Gary Sims's posts about his Cab and thinking that if they could design a convertible that could satisfy a guy with his obvious engineering knack, there was probably not going to be a separate glass-roofed Targa model in the 991 generation.
Not having driven a Targa, what advantages over the Cab is it likely to bring to the model lineup? A hatchback design with more cargo space (no rear seats) might be a worthwhile perk, for instance, but is that what they're likely to do?

That's basically what I'm saying. The Cab's top is not only much sturdier than it used to be, but the interior sound levels are lower as well. Other than storage space -- and the ability to run on tracks that for some misguided reason allow Targas but not Cabs -- I'm not sure I understand the motivation behind the Targa model. Was curious if there were some objective arguments in its favor, beyond just "I don't like ragtops."
