Could also have been "Why 99.9% of vintage air cooled older 911s will never be a Singer." I like the Magnus Walker variety better in any case.

I actually prefer Harris's 911: www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2HjaHS51hk; less of a Russian Easter Egg and a hell of lot less expensive to build.

Yeah the Singer shop might as well be an F1 type conversion shop, only the best, the best material, the best engineering, the best parts, all add up to the hefty price tag.

It is so easy to be nostalgic about the size and nimbleness of the early cars- when viewed through the lens of todays hot rods - especially ones build on newer body shells. Perhaps you had to actually have one to realize how "perfectible" they were. That required substantial aftermarket or later year parts swaps upgrades to the suspension, engine, and transmission. The more track worthy they were, the less street worthy they were. Driving in the rain of OMG snow were disastrous -not for the handling degradation, but because they rusted right before your eyes (ok thats hyperbole but not much) before galvanized body shells became standard.

Mr. Walker was just the subject of a piece on the front page of the LA Times business section. Interesting dude.
