I just sold my 2010 M3. Even it lacked the edge that the 991S has. That V8 did make some great sounds but the hp is similar and the M3 is 700 lbs heavier. Comfort on a long trip could be a toss up however.

I assumed that was a mistype. My stock f150 4wd crew cab can beat that 30-50 time at half throttle. I checked today. 11.4 s. unofficial using an iPhone stopwatch and a ford speedometer. But still. No way a base 991 even driven by my 78 year old mother is that slow.

I drove a 2011 M3 and 2012 335. It has been a year since I drove them and there is no comparison. The Porsche is much more fun and exciting. I was surprised that the M felt boring in comparison to a 997 or 991. I remembered it being more fun.
Plus it felt a lot more crammed than a Porsche. The 335 was about the same but it didn't have the sport seats so actually felt more comfy than the M.
Porsche wins.

I beg to differ. I had a 2011 335i convertible with M-sport package and it was a great car. Awesome low end torque, excellent handling. The ride was a bit harsh but that was mainly due to the M-sport package and run-flat tires (dumbest decision ever by BMW, btw). And I loved the fact that it looked like a coupe with the top up.
I'm now patiently awaiting delivery of my C2S. I'd probably still be driving the BMW if I hadn't totaled it

Now don't get me wrong, I like the car a lot and it is a huge step on from the 335 and M3 I've had previously. But, don't be naive about it's performance around town, it will be a step back from those torquey BMWs. I wish someone had told me that before I had ordered my car; I still would have bought it, I just would have done so with my eyes open.
Now that I've read this post back, it sounds more negative that I had intended. So heres a track video to show why my next car will also be a 911. : )

As a base 991 owner, I regret to inform you that it's not a misprint. A combination of engine mapping and extremely tall gearing make the in-gear performance pretty poor. I've written a lot about it over at 6speed, but long story short, Porsche just got the mid-range performance of the car dead wrong. A new Boxster S (and my previous 2011 Spyder) has more around town performance.

Sorry to steer away from the point, but I do believe the driving dynamics of a sports car vs a sports sedan is very different, regardless of power. Whatever you think you will miss in the 335i will be more than drowned out by a 911.

My DD was a 335i Coupe for about 3yrs, I then moved up to the M3 Cab which I've been driving daily for about 14mths now.
I just ordered the 991S (my first Porsche) and while the plan was to keep the M3 as my DD, based on what I've read, and the test drives I've done, I fear I won't be using the M3 as much as I was planning to.
Incidentally, the 335i is an awesome sports sedan, in fact I found it a bit better as a DD than the M3 (which has a Remus exhaust and is a much "rougher" car to drive daily), but it isn't exhilarating like the M3, and I expect that excitement/exhilaration to go another notch up with the 991.
I haven't heard of anyone being disappointed switching form any BMW to a 991, but that doesn't mean some of the Bavarian cars aren't excellent, and I think the 335 (especially Coupe) was one of their best.
