Just came out of a 135i, currently driving a 335i. The BMWs are great cars--torque is available down low and all over the band (especially with the 8 spd automatic) on the 2013, BUT they do not provide the "rush" of my 06 997S.
Forget the numbers..drive the cars. NOT EVEN CLOSE.

I just want to tell you this. My office is only 2miles from my home, sometimes I took a very long detour (>10miles) just to enjoy my C2S. Thats the kind of fun that only a 911 can bring.

I have a 335i and just got a 991. They are so different it's not even close. The 335i is quick but entirely uninspiring. If you want a quick car that does everything well, the 335i is great. Just don't expect it to be fun. I can't wait to give it back! I couldn't care less about the armchair race or the numbers.
The 991 is engaging all the time. Totally different. It doesn't matter that its not that fast, it gets you involved. In MT or PDK.

This exactly. I just took delivery of my 991 in December after 4 years in a 07 335i coupe. The bimmer was a great car absolutely, but in no way shape or form can you even compare to a 991.
Not sure about all the other experiences on here but my base carrera with sc and PDk feels MUCH faster than my BMW, and I drove that car like I stole it most of the time. I'm even starting to question which car is more comfortable, I'm leaning towards my 991. Get the 991, IMO worth the money and then some.

I have nothing additional to add to what previous folks have already stated...BUT...I have driven BMWs for the last 20 years...everything from a 318i to a 335i and after experiencing my 991 for the last 6 months I have concluded I wasted those 20 years. I have never driven a car that handles like the 991. Im not a track person and I use my 991 as a DD (also taking the long way to work and back home). Put it in sport plus mode, open the pse, get it up to 6K RPM...the sound combined with acceleration and handling is incredible . Sorry, not much quantifiable data here...my vote is the 991 (any version) Good luck!

I should have also mentioned that its hard to compare 335i to 911's or even Boxsters or Caymans. The 335 lacks the edge that Porsche's have. For BMW's you gotta look at the M cars, especially the M3.

I went from a 335 to 996tt. Definitely not apples to apples. The one thing they do have in common is lots of low end torque which is very handy to have is daily use. It's one of the reasons I bought a used 996tt over the new 997S I was in the process of ordering.
Torque is addictive.
That said the base 991 is an overall superior car, but the 335 as you know is a blast to drive and more than fast enough for street use. It's a lot of car for the money.
You just have to decide if you can live without the torque.

I just sold my 2010 M3. Even it lacked the edge that the 991S has. That V8 did make some great sounds but the hp is similar and the M3 is 700 lbs heavier. Comfort on a long trip could be a toss up however.

I remember when I had my 3 and a friend in the most respectable and honest way possible said for your next car go test drive a 911. It accentuates that BMW driver feel that much more. Now I know what he was talking about.

I had a BMW 1M (135i on steroids) and now I have a 991 base, no doubt the Porsche is fast and the most engaging car out there, but I hate the lack of low end torque.
The BMW 1M was a hoot to drive, unlike my 991, there was no need to drive it like I stole it to appreciate its full potential, it has lots of torque through the entire rev band so it felt faster than my base car arround town, even though it isnt (I think), the 1M sounds fantastic too, I wouldnt call it a boring car, only downside was its cheap interior.
Even though I liked it a lot, its no Porsche, call me a snob but I feel special whenever I'm cruising arround in my 911, I didnt feel the same in the BMW.

A chevy Malibu feels horrid. A 335, while not a Carrera, is a very well compsed sport sedan. One of the best at what it is.
My wife drive a GL450. It is a horrible sports car, but an absolutely brilliant SUV. I love driving it on the highway while hauling stuff to and from our bay house.
I'm not sure why car guys can't appreciate vehicles in different classes that are exceptional in their class.

I had 335 e92 for 6 years. Although great car but don't miss it a bit. 991 (4S in my case) is completely different animal...more upscale, refined, ferocious when you want it to be. There's no comparison...different league (ie super car league!)
