I believe that the red S calipers are all 6 pot type so there is a functional as well as color difference. That said, decals are widely available and any competent Porsche certified auto body facility can repaint and install.
Frankly, I like the yellow but was shy the $8k cost of ceramic
My opinion, learn to appreciate the black. They look great with my agate grey base
My dealer painted my Base calipers, IMO the calipers look small compared to the "S", not worth to make then stand out in red or any other flashy color. Black is good in the Base car.
Call your dealer and ask who they use. The 997s had a lot of caliper fade and the dealers would re-paint them in whatever colour people wanted. Have fun.
I agree that calipers are just another part or option for the owner to consider, and color is rightfully one of the options we should be free to choose, so color away if you really feel the need. The base calipers however, anything that draws attention to them is bound to draw attention to their size. Or lack thereof. Which undoubtedly is why Porsche chose to make them black. If one were to change them at all the next best choice would seem to be to remove the finish and go with the look of the underlying metal, bead-blasted perhaps, any uniformly dull finish that tends to help make them less visible. The base calipers are like the valve stem- you need them and they do their job just fine but you really don't want to have to look at them, so just get chrome or black or whatever makes them disappear the best and move on to important stuff like is it worth adding the smoking package to cover up the hole or not?
I have a brand new 991 base and I'd like to have the calipers red. I'm told paint is preferable to powder coating because of higher heat tolerances.
Does anyone know who does this and does it right? How about an exchange program?
Many thanks,
I'm probaby in a small minority (or completely by myself on this one), but I've never liked the red calipers. When I had my 991 base, I was grateful they were not red. And I have a 911_50 (991S) on the way and am thinking about having the red calipers painted a different color.
