Default New 991 cab - faint whistling noise??

Just picked up a 991 Cab yesterday. Car is fantastic but notice a faint harmonic whistle sound at low speeds coming from the engine area - when in gear and moving and also in neutral when depressing the clutch. Anyone know what this is? Thanks everyone.

Thanks. Is this something that goes away after break in?

No.
But after a short while you get used to it and no longer notice it. The fans will come on whenever the wizzard behind the back seat needs a breeze to cool him down...

Just open the PSE and that's all you'll hear. Music!

I drove a 991 Cab last Spring and a 991S Coupe last fall in Germany. Never heard the fans as the cars were always in Sport mode.

Wow. I never heard it from the beginning. The exhaust note must charmed me out of noticing. Now I'll have to listen for it today.

It's probably not the fan in my case. I originally noticed it when depressing the clutch. Could hear a faint whistle when clutch was on its way in or out. Also noticed when car is in 1st or 2nd gear while giving it gas at slow speeds. The noise from the clutch stopped happening after 2 days but I can still hear it in 1st and 2nd gear at slow speeds, however it is softer sounding. Have had the car since last Thursday night now... I'll take it in if the sound doesn't go away or gets worse.

Other than that this car is amazing. If only I can figure out how to program the Homelink now...

I used to notice it after getting back from a drive - I have to go into limo mode and drive very slowly as we live in a game park with some skittish animals around so it's pretty quiet in the cabin. That is the only time I notice the fans. It's quite muted.

The only other "noise" from the back is a distinct gearbox whine when accelerating in limo mode. Mostly when the box is cold - seems to be less once it is warm. Don't notice it when the PSE is breathing freely.

Same with my 991 (base with PDK). It's only noticeable when driving at very slow speeds, like parking -- with little throttle... it's not very loud, but it's driving me nuts because I think there's something wrong with my PDK clutch. It's like a whistling, with a little bit whining in it.

Yes. Harmless kind though - no Lions...
Loudest roar heard in living memory in our game park was when a certain 991 opened up. Neighbour wanted to know what it sounds like...

Just got my c4s w pdk and have the same noise. It even happens if you put in neutral and give a little throttle. Anyone get a fix?

I think I also have it when on idle, without any additional throttle.

I'm not sure if it's a bug which can be fixed, maybe it's just normal?

A bug ?
No, don't think so. My bugs are all on the front fender and squashed.

The dealers sometimes forget to remove the clear protector stickers on the metallic surface under the engine hood. It could have been my imagination but after i removed them, a flutter (whistle) sound disappeared. They have little tabs that might be vibrating. I always show new owners these stickers. they're there 9 out of 10 times.
