Default Adaptive cruise control and Porsche Active Safe (PAS)

The question is does the front license plate in states that require them, interfere with these functions? I am considering adding the adaptive cruise but not sure if my front plate will cover it/limit it.

Thanks in advance and sorry if this question has already been posed.

Cheers,

It appears that a center mounted front license plate would interfere with the PAS. You could offset the license plate by purchasing an after market tow hook license plate holder.

Or maybe we can convince the federal government to ban states from requiring front license plates due to the drag and extra emissions it creates and fix it that way?

Is this true?

Wouldn't this mean that the Adaptive cruise control would then be useless for UK and the car's home country of Germany, amongst others. Surely German engineers wouldn't produce such a system?!

No. I refuse to believe that Porsche engineers designed this and forgot to take their largest market (USA) and the largest sales region within this market (so cal) into consideration or any other market where this system is offered for that matter. There is a review somewhere if you do a google search of a c4 with this system and related pics.

I had considered this system as well but ultimately decided not to get it for other reasons.

My '07 Infiniti G35S came with such a system. I tried it once. It works. If I thought I wanted (or needed) to rely on it, I'd stop driving.

Can't imagine they would sell a car in the USA that you couldn't put a front plate on. Makes no sense.

(in side news, I drilled my own front plate for the the 991. It has grooves that guide the plate holder into perfect center position. Just put your electric screwdriver to work and it does everything with the Porsche plate holder screws. Completely foolproof imo, I appreciated that from Porsche, even the front plate mount install was well engineered.)

Here is a pic from the configurator, which is why I said "It appears that a center mounted front license plate would interfere with the PAS."

Thanks for all the replies and I think the adaptive cruise MIGHT sensor might be off-centered enough to be "ok" with a front US front plate. But I still wonder how far down the center the plate goes as to whether it interferes with the PAS. That PAS sensor looks dead center within the front spoiler and might behind a plate.

Anyone in NY State had any experiences with the PAS and the mandatory front plates in NY State?

Thanks

"But officer, I was told this car has a waiver due to the PAS...."

Should work in DC, Great Falls and Potomac, not so much in PG County.

Maybe, just maybe the OP and gota911 have a point here ... Here is the link to a pic of the 991 with the ACC and a euro plate ..

The US license plates are taller, but how exactly do they sit on the 991 ? I live in a state that does not require a front license plate and I have not seen one on a 991 in person. Let's see if I can find a pic with a US front license plate on..

This photo is exactly what got me thinking! The EURO plate just barely fits above the PAS, and my hunch is a US plate is way too "long". Ugh. Maybe the tow hook plate holder would help?

It may be possible to cover the "dome" slightly and get away with it. I don't claim to know anything about radar wave propagation but maybe the dome is a protective cover around the actual much smaller aperture required for the radar unit to function ??? It is still hard to believe that Porsche would sell this without mentioning anything anywhere about front license plates. Or has anyone even checked the manual lately?

My 991S build includes the Sport Design front/rear. I was thinking of using one of the tow hook adapters but it looks like then the plate will cover the parking sensor? We are required to have front plates in BC.

This is a great thread. I'm curious to know if its indeed the case. As Nicoli puts it, it'd be strange if front plate blocks it and a mess up on Porsche behalf...I doubt it though.
