Default I love all 4s cars, but this one?!

I have had 3 4s cars (996, 997.1 and 997.2) and they have all be been fantastic as everyday cars (NJ, CA and TN). I have been stalking all the dealer webistes waiting for the first 991's to arrive so I can drive one. There is a dealer in Atlanta with this car due soon (and no, I don't work in the motor industry). $161k for a 991 4s, wow!

Thats my problem right now. Sticker shock. I have one ordered but jimminy Christmas.
I did a power package performance only outside of full leather and adaptive seats and
I am into the $140 range. And the dealer is just offering me beans for trades
my 2009 911 S PDK and a 2011 X5M loaded. He wants pretty close to retail and to auction my two
cars. Its not like I am trading in a Passat and a volvo, but he told me flat out, I want to get your cars
in and get em out. I am not getting a warm fuzzy. Right now I am seriously thinking of just keeping my 997.2

My suggestion is order the C4S you want, and forget to pick one up from the dealer lot. Save $$$'s.

That sounds like the perfect car to ignore. I believe that Porsche plans to make others.

Go back to the dealer and tell him you will give him $80k for the car and throw in two packs of smokes, a corncob pipe, and three kicks in the nuts.

No doubt it's a really nice car but there are at least $30K worth of options that I could personally do without very easily and still have a really nice car. I second the opinion that if you buy a 991, order one to your spec, and not one that has had almost every box checked on the order form.

Well, me too, if Mark wanted a cheaper C4 and wanted to start from that example for some reason. But the scary thing is I only see a few options on there that disqualified cars for my own consideration. Notably, the PCCB's and the AWD immediately add $16-$20k to the MSRP. I don't remember offhand, but something like that. Add some fripperies like a painted key, leather on the air vents, and that funky cruise control. Pretty soon those amount to another $5k and reaching for $10k. Somebody had a pretty high-end bunch of potential buyers in mind.

On the other hand, it isn't new to this year, guys. I wanted to try a GT3 and they gave me the keys to an example to "mess around in the canyons for awhile." Lovely car, usually we think of them as track-day cars, right? Not exclusively of course, but intended for buyers with serious track time planned. This car had the base price of a 997 GT3, something like $115k if I remember correctly. But the bottom line -- without mark-up -- was $161,500. They had nearly fifty thousand worth of options on top of that pretty high base MSRP.

And I noticed it was sold next time I was in the dealer. Of course, their Lambo shop next door and the Ferrari house down the street must move a couple of dozen units each month that make that GT3 seem cheap in their market.

Hollywood isn't Dubuque. And Dubuque isn't Smallville. Markets vary.

OG, 140k is nuts for a c4s that will depreciate 50% in three yrs.
Turbo money, without the performance.
My advice is to keep your very nicely setup c2s.

4s holds its resale much better than 2S!
