Default Rear End Lettering DIY...DONE

After having the factory lettering taken off and replaced with a 997 era Carrera and S, I found that the cleaner look I was after did not quite happen. To my eyes, the older and larger Carrera and S did not quite complement the new rear end as well as I thought it would. I found myself wanting to revert to the factory PORSCHE lettering but doing something a little cleaner in terms of less lettering on the bottom line.

I finally decided to go with 911 and a red S.

After an hour of painstaking measurements and letter placements and adjustments, I think I finally got the PORSCHE lettering right.

Having stared at the final result for a good 10 mins, I think I can safely say that I am finally satisfied with the lettering on the back and I have the cleaner look I was after.

Now on to the next mod...

Interesting. Fair to say I spent exact same amount of time removing all of mine. the lack of subtlety in the new badging (typography) certainly is polarizing. gotta love the Porsche marketing dept. inmo they had badging dialed on the 997. model designation badged and the brand second surface vinyl. Nice work though looks great!!

Thanks Chance. I vacillated back and forth over this issue for a while. The factory badging was much too busy for me, so I reverted to the 997 era Carrera and S. After having it on the car for a few days, i constantly had that little nagging voice in my head that said the 997 era font wasn't quite the answer too.

I was driving behind another 991 the other day and it just had PORSCHE and 911 on it and it looked really clean, so I finally decided to go with that, plus the added red S.

Are you "one of those people" the purists will call out saying you care more about appearance than "the good old days when WE care more about substance than bling, blah blah blah blah...."?

I love what you did. Wish I had your talent.

I think it is a balance of performance and aesthetics. In my 993, all mods were strictly performance only: ECU remap, KW suspension etc. For the 991, its completely new and I am still getting to know the car so performance mods will come later once I have a much better feel for the car and I can point to performance aspects that I would like to improve upon.

How easy is it to remove the factory-applied letters? Is there a noticeable mark left afterwards?

I did a similar mod a few months back but stuck with the bright finish S. I like the retro nod it gives to the badging of the pre '73 models.

that looks really good.
Im thinking about having the carerra 911 s script painted to match the bodywork, so that it doesnt 'pop' quite as much.
How do you reattach the letters?

thanks

ISUK,
Yours looks great! Seems like we were on the same wave length on the retro nod.

You will need to order a new set of letters. Bumperplugs.com has them in various colours.

Dental floss gets the letters off nicely. Any residue can be taken off with a little water and elbow grease. No noticeable marks if you use the dental floss.

Thank you; and regular use reduces the chance of fillings as well, I guess.
