Default A question of manners

Ever since I ordered it, I've been anxious whether my new 991 would be spoiled by the soft 18-way seats and PDK that I need these days. Would it still be a sports car? Or would it descend into a boulevardier's ... hmmm. Impolite term and no longer politically correct. Let's say a boulevardier's "pretty car for attracting dates." I didn't want one. Never have. Possibly because I found my wife before I could afford a special car just to attract dates. Anyway, I still don't want one.

I've been driving a Panamera for two weeks on loan until my Carrera arrives. And yesterday I spent five hours following 914's, 911's and Boxsters around the California mountains. (See A Very Porsche Day if you care.) The PDK and the cushy seats in the Panamera convinced me. If I can have that much fun with them in a sedan chassis, they will be just fine in a proper sports car chassis. Glorious in fact.

I'm not anxious any more, just eager. And they report my car came off a boat in Ohio last week and is in a truck en route to Southern California. Would it be unseemly to put a sleeping bag in front of the door at the dealer? Or would that push the bounds of propriety?

Gary

Gary,
Unseemly or not, it would be uncomfortable. Might I suggest parking a Winnebago in front of their door instead?

Oh, very good! I'll park it blocking their showroom window instead. Motivate them to put the spurs to that truck driver.

Gary, losing patience

I think you should track the truck, drive out and meet up, and escort to the dealership. That way, maybe the driver takes a break and you can talk him into getting an early peek at your Carrera! And if he doesn't take a break, well then based on your (superb) A Very Porsche Day you're certainly capable of following him without a break.... for however long it takes!

Gary, you did your due diligence before specing your Carrera. I am sure that you will have NO buyers remorse for the options you chose. All you have to do now is be patient for just a tad more time and look forward to a glorious future of driving in your new Carrera. Well done !!

An even better idea! How much does one tip an officer of the dealership for tidbits like the license plate of that truck? Wonder whether any of my old friends haven't retired yet, so I can get a real-time satellite track going?

The way trucking works nowadays the company knows the trucks location, within a few feet or so, 24/7. Not that they would tell you, necessarily! But how hard could it be to track down? Probably has great big lettering: Carrera Carrier. In '75 Carrera font, no doubt!
Bigger and better than this one, I hope!

And I thought I was the only one going nuts waiting for a car. I mean, it's just a car for God's sake ! I'm grown up and all that. Why is that ? What is the matter with this thing ? Why is this doing this to me ? Aaargggg....

Got notified that mine is finally built. It's now waiting for a ship. Any ship...

A quick records search shows Belle of Bremerton tying alongside in Hafen Frankfurt around dawn tomorrow. You can send instructions:

But if you'd like something more posh, Hummingbird is transiting the Channel and will have accomodations for passengers open after she unloads. You could fly over in time to travel home in luxury with your car:

Clearly, you're not the only one going nuts. I just got a note saying my car is "loaded and en route. 7 to 10 days". What the hell is that? Driver stopping for an early Thanksgiving with his second family in Oklahoma? Shipping damage? And they've factored bodywork into the transit time? What is this!?!

The verdammte ship docked on 29 October!

Guys I know what you're going through! I got mine last Thursday. The last few days of waiting were agonising. I could barely concentrate on anything! Ridiculous I know. The sheer excitement and anticipation of getting that beast but oh so worth the wait! I am loving it - 991 C2S coupe, PDK, SC, Sports Exhaust, PDCC, Black full leather with platinum contrast stitching on Agate. I can't stop driving the thing!

Could you post a picture of your interior? I would love to see the combo of the black leather with platinum stitch.

Will do as soon as I get car back from dealer where they are dealing with a PDK gearbox fault after only 250 miles! (see thread "gearbox emergency operation"). Bummer!
