Default Negotiating a 991 Purchase

Always wanted a Porsche

Has a 530, 550 and 750. Was ready for something different.

Looked at used 09 S 997's with manual and PDK. Was looking at 07 08 Turbos. At the time of the test drive I was thinking the Turbo was too much. I might as well throw my license out the window as I drive off the lot.

The salesman suggested I drive a new 991 since a turbo price would approach a 991 price. I did, might have been a mistake, sucked me in.

2012 3-12 build, Sport Chrono, Premium, Heated seats PDK, sunroof, power steering plus, multi function wheel, folding mirrors, Platinum wheels (very nice) Bose, 14 way seats. I think I am getting a decent deal 7% off reasonable trade.

I have not closed the deal yet, probably will Saturday what is nagging at me is that if I am patient I could get a low mileage 2010 Turbo. The S is fast but the Turbo is a true supercar.

Any thoughts?

If you have the patience and don't mind spending $40k more, I would wait for the new turbo. If it's a choice between a 991 and a '08 turbo, I would go for the 991.

How about if it was a 2010 PDK Turbo?

Any 997 turbo will be a fantastic buy and will be a lot faster that a 991. How long are you planning on keeping it? If 1-2 years, and you like power and low-end torque, then the turbo is a good buy. But if you're looking to hold onto it for awhile, the 991 is simply a move evolved car. Plus, you're buying new at about the same price as a used turbo. I'm personally holding out for a 991 turbo. Dealer says it will be out next year and will be a giant leap from the old. But if I "had" to pick one today, I'd choose a new 991 over a '10 turbo...can't stand the thought of my turbo looking obsolete by next year :P

Congrats, I think the new one is a better idea too, but yea a 997 Turbo PDK has to be a E ticket ride.

Exactly 7 but there was a trade and I negotiated on the trade. You can do someminternet research and figure out sticker. Then decide what is fair. I was in the car business for years. The dealer has to make money. They have large overhead, 7% is a fair deal. If you beat them to death it could hurt your relationship and when you come back for service they might be less willing to bend with you when it comes to gray areas. Meaning they might not go the extra yard Witt the factory

Agreed thanks for the intel, not sure where I am on this, might shop hard at the end of the month for a 2012,, If it's going to be a 991 - I have never owned a "new" car so this could be a first for me, Wifey however has had noting but new....
