Default Gassy smell in cabin

Hi All

I have noticed on several 991s an occasional whiff of gas (I mean gas, not petrol chaps). My new one did it a bit from new and I wasn't bothered but yesterday it was quite bad - overpoweringly so.

Does anyone know what's causing it? Air con? Exhaust gas?

It seems worse at low speeds and, oddly, when manoeuvring.

And no, it has nothing to do with eating curry.

This is wrong, not normal at all. Take it to dealer.

I would not waste time wondering what it is. Take it to the dealer as fast as you can!

I am trying to avoid taking it to the dealer, though inevitably that may be how it ends up.

Problem being it only does it sometimes.

As I say, I have been in 3 991s with a similar whiff.

Must be an English thing then, as I have not seen anything of the sort in the US. Not trying to be an alarmist but imagine if it isn't curry and you somehow faint while driving. Other than the bother of visiting the dealer what have you got to loose? Drive over there now man, preferably with the windows open. Cheers.

Not really the reason, BnB. More the fact that there are more 991 owners over here.

I've had the same smell. It's not a daily occurrence, but it happens often enough. I kinda blew it off as maybe something that I drove by daily and just came through the vents. It's more of a natural gas smell, like if it was leaking from the house and you could smell it.....only in my car and not near any kind of gas lines

Yes, that's it.

I have worked out that I was noticing it when the air flow was switched to high level. I have it back on normal setting now and the problem has not recurred.

As I said, I have driven 3 991s with the same smell.

Don't have it, but this wouldn't have anything to do with the AC pipe campaign, would it?

I believe the A/C pipe campaign is to replace lines that are leaking refrigerant. Mine were apparently leaking so they were replaced. However, before replacement I never noticed any unusual gassy odors in the cabin and my A/C worked just fine. I would take it to a dealer and have it checked.
