As the world turns.... the life of a 991..
#31
I'm really craving a 991, especially after driving one this week, but am waiting to see how long it takes for some used models to break into the $60's to buy with slight (CPO) mileage, (which in turn could also give me more leeway when negotiating a lease deal on a brand new model if I want one).
The lowest used models I've seen so far around the entire country have been mid-high $70's, and I see many Brand New 2013's being advertised for high $80's.
I assume 911's don't depreciate as much as the "average car", but like any Luxury Item, initial deprecation could be vast.

People these days can't wait so just like your dealer is doing he'll nab someone desperate for the 991.

Would it be a fair assumption to say you got around $70K for it then?

where have you seen 991's for sale in high 70's? i have yet to see that and dont see them going any lower for quite some time (997.2's are still in 80's and above.. so no reason for 991 to ever go below 80..)
where is brand new 2013 for high 80? i assume it's a high 80 sticker? or well 90 sticker w/ discount (not advertised discount however)
i've had 997.1/997.2/991 and seen the market... 997.2 are not even steadily in the 60's yet and 4 years old... 991's wont get there for a WHILE..
porsche is smart in retaining value.. the only reason 997.2's dipped down for a bit was overproduction in 09'
the prices u speak of, i would call first and verify.. most times it's bait and switch or "mis advertised"... happened everyday all day w/ cayenne... none of the cars actually existed.

I think it was $77-$78K. Not sure if it was some scam, or anything, but it looked legit, and clearly it either got pulled or sold.
The high $80's (New) models must be discounted I'd assume, but the handful of ads (about 2-4 I think) I've seen from them didn't specify. I think the prices are $87-$89K or around that.
Just do a search on Autotrader with the max limit of say $90K, run it through the whole country, and unless they all got pulled today, they should be there.
There were quite a few used 991's on there last week for pretty good deals (when the $77K one was up), but they seemed to get snapped up FAST, because they're not up there anymore.
OH! Also, one GREAT deal on a NEW 991 had it priced somewhere in the upper $80's, with a Lease offer of $890 a month, with $6995 down. Does that sound too good to be true, or doable on a Base 991?

There was a Private Party add for a black 991, very low mileage, with a description under it reading something like "this is the NEW 991 chassis, not the 997 chassis, and this is the cheapest price you will find for one in the entire country, just look for yourself".... or something like that.

lease deal is bull**** cause it's all credit rated and those numbers change even w/ perfect credit.

I might have been getting confused by the two of your texts now, maybe I was reciting yours while forgetting what his said. Or maybe it was a scam. I do remember they verbage was a little different between you too.... but maybe not.
Oh well, no way to know now I guess.

Hmm, I actually remember seeing your ad now (the white C2 you have in pics on the other thread). Funnily enough your ad is still there right on top of the dealer that bought its ad!

Through my "research", and the value retaining ability of the 911, I feel it's one of those cars that's better to purchase than Lease, financially speaking? With M-B and BMW, they over-allocate their cars so much, you see crazy incentives being thrown at Leases. Seems Porsche doesn't do that with the 911 so much? Therefore it seems like if you have the ability, buying is a better decision than to Lease a 911?

Looking up 5-7 year old 911's near my area (yes, 2 bodystyles back to the 996 even), many go for $40-$50's. The lowwwest of the low are around the $40's. And again, this goes as far back to '06 models which are 996's, which are kind of becoming the "b*stard children* of the Porsche range.... though I love 'em as I do about all 911's.
So, if an '06 at its lowest is going for around $40K, then in the same period of time, being 2018, that would put you at a 6 year old 2012 991. Saying you got a Base for around $90K, that's $50K in depreciation, and that's a pretty bad case scenario (some 6 year old 911 Base's go for well over $40K).
Sounds like a lot, but that's about what a Lease on an E-Class would cost you for 6 years.
Therefore, to buy a 2012 991 911 for 6 years you'd be pretty much projected to pay about $700 a month for the entire time.... again that's even a pretty safe/bad case scenario. Of course, you can't invest that money in anything that might get you better returns.... but those are pretty good returns compared to a Lease.
Man, I think I just sold myself.... where do I sign up?

06 is 997
E class?
50k depreciation? yes,.. 05's were going for 35k before 991 came out and demand became higher..
why keep the car the whole 6 years?
buy a barebones 991 for 80k otd (88 sticker)... drive a year and sell for 75k... thats a bargain.
or tons of other things you can do, it's all about choices in life.

True, that would be a heck of a bargain. The hard part would be finding a dealer who'd order a $88k car and sell it for $80k otd (even in SC, where the sales tax is capped at $300).
