I've heard that Ferrari's numbers aren't always accurate. That might explain the results...

Win or lose I'd still take the F car over the P car...if I had an extra $200k lying around

Dont know about the 430, but Ive killed my neighbors 400hp F360 spyder in my Base 991 many times, and thats manual vs manual.
He doesnt want to race me anymore

458 vs 991, are kidding me? no comparison between the two, very different specs, price, blah, blah.

Not really, it just takes a willingness to burn expensive tires and an expensive clutch. If you're talking about professional drag racing, maybe finding that last .01 second takes finesse and lots of experience. But these are not professional drag races, and the faster car should always win unless one of the drivers is completely incompetent.

How fast did you guys top off at? I think he let you off easy, just like we let some cars off easy. I've done that plenty of times with Ford F250s. I just don't want to hurt their feelings. Just joshin. Cheers.

Base price of a 458 Italia is $229k. 991S is $96k, so we're both off some. Whether the diff is 100 or 200k the comparison is hardly apples to apples.

I owned a F430 for four years. It's a fabulous car. My 991s s a daily driver but not in the same class as an F430 IMHO. A ZR1 will lay waste to both of them so what. So will some kids hopped up mustang.

Just because my car is a manual i would have thought the 430 had the advantage, but it does not. Now also consider that it was a spider which is a bit heavier than the coupe. maybe a coupe would have beat me. Driver issue well the 430 is a double clutch hard to screw that one up and my buddy is a pretty good driver.

I did not mention that we did three rolling start tries and all ended up with same result....porsche ahead.

I am not the kind that knocks ferraris. they are beautiful cars. the sound of a 991S with sport exhaust is much much improved from my 997s, but i must admit that the sound of the 430 is amazing, not to say that my 991 is lacking on that department.

I have only put 1500 miles on it so far and still treating it with care to allow break in. All I can say is that the 991 is a magnificent car. I have a 996 that i track and have had several 997s', but the handling of a 991 is just incredible. Well yes 996 and 997s' are more raw. You can throw them around in a way the 991 wont allow, but no doubt the 991s's handling is superior. If it is fastest around a track that you are looking for the 991 is the ticket. If sophistication is another requisite the 991 is again on top of the list.

I would just own one of each and end the discussion there, but did not win the powerball the other day so for now i will consider myself lucky to have a 996 to play on track and a 991S to use on weekends.

Additional comments. A couple of months back I was contemplating a 2008 ferrari f430, and the outcome was the 991S. Again i dont knock ferraris and will own one in the future that much i know. At this point in time i stayed with Porsche because of simple reasons. First my passion since i was a kid has been Porsches. Second I wanted a car that i could drive daily if I wanted and third do so in comfort.

Yes ferraris could be driven daily if you chose to do so, but the truth of the matter is that people don't and for whatever diverse and extensive reason that is the reality of ferraris. Maintenance costs on a 430 would be quite higher than on my 991s and for a lot less money I have full warranty on my Porsche.

Did i purchase the 991s because it was less money or cheaper to keep absolutely not. I bought it because Porsche's are my number one passion.

Comfort is subject but an F430 is pretty comfortable. A 991 will be less money to maintain. I think the real reason that most people don't use a Ferrari as a daily drive is that it attracts to much attention and beats up the car.

A Ferrari is something you buy with your heart.
A Porsche you buy with your brain.
The Lambo you buy with your...

Simplified but pretty accurate.
