Typical Dealer Upsell?
Will be picking up my 991 in about a month and was just wondering what the typical dealer upsell items are at time of delivery? Also are any of the items worth the money? I have a lot of experience with BMW and was always prepared for the sales pitch on paint protectant from acid rain, tire and wheel insurance, extended warrantee….etc. Any help would be very appreciated Thanks!

There was none of this when I bought my last Porsche (from Roger Beasley Porsche in Austin)...very refreshing. But I have heard from others that the tire & wheel insurance is a good idea if your part of the country is known for its bad roads.

No need to discuss extended warrantee on a new 991.
Forget the paint protection, fabric/leather treatment, etc. In fact, I ask them to leave the car covered in paper/goo, and I'll give them all 10's on the survey. This way they won't swirl/scratch the paint using dirty rags in the wash pit.
Beyond that, they can certainly offer up a set of clears, but if not, WE stock them for you too.
Good luck!

Got the usual spiel about wheel and tire insurance and extended warranty. I just rolled my eyes and was polite about it, no thanks. Never bought those kinds of offers and never regretted it.
Reminds me of a spiel when I was buying a Honda years ago. The business manager was trying to sell me extra rust protection with inside of body panels sprayed with a wax-oil protectant.
I took him over to a car on the show room floor, opened the drivers door, got on my hands and knees and invited him to do the same. I pointed to the oozing yellow material coming from the door drain holes and said, "All of your cars already have the wax oil protection!"
I walked out of the dealership without the car.
Caveat emptor.

They tried to sell Key Insurance. Had not heard of that before, I think it was about $450 and he said it would pay for mitself if I lost 1 key. I didn't buy anything from them. I did get clear film from custom shop because I wanted full front not just a partial strip.

They tried to get me on the wheels/tire, paint protection and clear bra. I would have gone for the clear bra but the price was high and it wasn't a full coverage custom job so I passed and had it done locally.
I passed on everything else too.

I live in Northwest Jersey, and the roads are such a mess after each winter that I think the tire and wheel insurance is a life saver. On my prior 911, I went through two real wheels that needed to be replaced as well as one rim. The money for the insurance essentially was taken cared of my the cost of the first tire.
The clear bra was a pass as was lojack. Since my 991 on order has 20 inch wheels, then I think the tire and rim insurance is a no brainer and I am considering the custom wired radar/laser detection. I would pass on the clear bra, lojack and paint sealant/scotchgard protection. My detail shop is cheaper and does a better job with this for a fraction of the cost.
