Default Weight saving project on 991

Weight saving

Hi, I just did my mod to save some weights.

I have removed

- Rear seat belts left/right = save 2 kg
- Rear wiper + Motor = save 1.3 kg
- Rear back rest left/right = save 5.2 kg

Total saving = 8.5 kg or 18.5 us pound

Actually I also wanted to remove the rear seat (may be another 4-5 kg) but when I did it, it was pretty bad to look at so i decided to put it back.

I really want to put GT2 seat on it but afraid about the air back warning light problem. Has anyone done it with out error? My old seat is 4 ways.

Are you doing this in light of tracking the car? Have you noticed a difference?

I removed it because it is useless for me so it always good to save weight. I just feel lighter at first less rattles on sharp bumps.

what did you do w/ the hole left by removing the rear wiper?

BTW 18.5lb doesnt seem like a lot for street use. Frankly would it be better just to drive the car w/ less fuel instead? But if you must, I can prob think of a few things:
1. Lower weight battery
2. 18in wheels/tires
3. recaro seats (like 20lbs ea)

Saving unsprung weight is good for everything. Best options for "first less rattles on sharp bumps" are higher profile tires (on any size wheel), 19s with higher profile rather than 20s with lower profile, lighter wheels and tires than you now have.

You could also go up + 1 in tire size as the aspect ratio would give a bit more "profile" and lessen shock. Also, Michelin SuperSports are lighter than most and are known for riding smoother with no compromises in handling or wear. A set totally transformed a Boxter S I had compared to the PS2s it came with.

I also installed the GT2 seats and they work just fine. We did not succeed to disable the airbag warning yet (even though airbags are still functional) but will work on the GT2 seats wiring -not an issue with the airbag but with the weighting system that is apparently not present in the GT2 seats-.

I also removed all the paperwork from the glove box and have the shortcut to the online manual on my iPhone (2 lbs saved?) and have the new Agency power headers + hi-flo cats & secondary mufflers bypass on order. The bypass certainly represents a few pounds weight saving per muffler.

Meanwhile, I am going for 15" BBK front and rear + sooner or later a roll cage that is going to offset some of the weight savings...

Please share more numbers / options you find for saving weight :reckon:

Thanks!
