He must be messing with us.

As a current C6 owner I agree with you, even the smoothed out lowered 911 of today is still very unique.

Think the op is coming from a different perspective... He's been in the porsche game a fair while and for those who have actually driven, owned and looked at their 911s over the past 15 to 20 years will see that the car is actually getting dramatically different to the way it was. Not a bad thing, but when you put a 991 next to an early 70s 911 it sure makes the 991 look like a very long nose and large gt of some sort... But whilst it is definitely longer and lower in profile, not sure if it resembles the Corvette that much.

But not all that different to the 997 in my opinion. Heck I still sometimes can't tell if a car heading towards me is a 991 or 997... And I used to own a 997 as well...

I agree for anything pre 991. The 991 finally broke that mold and still looks like a 911. It no longer like The Bug (not that there is anything wrong with that)

Uhm, early 911s are known as "long nose".

Not quite. pre '74 911s are known as long "hood" 911s, as in '74 the long and elegant hoods were shortened to make room for the monstrous impact bumpers.

Check out my sig line. That is a 1973 "long hood"

Yes that was only a result of the bonnet dimensions, not the overall car length... Although there was a change in the wheelbase in these early cars from SWB to LWB (2211 to 2268mm) in 1969 to reduce the nervous hsndling of the first generation 911 that did not also affect the overall dimensions of the car.. Only the rear axles changed position so overall dimensions of the car remained more or less unchanged for the long nose cars as you refer to them.
