Default Paint protection film for 991?

I have a 991 coming next month and have ordered Aqua Blue. I am undecided on whether or not to add the Stone Guard film to reduce paint chips. I had it on my 997 but not on my 2006 Cayman.

Does anyone know if Porsche has changed their paints or are they still as prone to chipping as they have been in the past. I don't know if it is better to get the film put on or maybe just go without it and have the hood repainted every couple of years.

With a solid black 991 on the way in also interested to hear what others think. The Xpel Ultimate film is getting a good response from users.

Were any particular areas of the 997 prone to stone chips and need such protection?

Sorry but one would have to be crazy to NOT have clear bra on a car today
With advances in film technology and full panel coverage (thus fewer visible lines) choice is easy.
I always do full front (bumper, hood, fenders) plus mirrors, rear wheel arch and-most importantly-a one piece that covers rocker panel and rear quarter panel (between door and rear wheel arch)...this area gets more damage than front bumper

My $.02

I may be crazy. Not a fan of the look.

How long do they last? Do they get scuffed up? Then what, do it again? What is approx cost?

Thx.

The look ? Do whole panel (hood, fender etc) and you dont see anything. New film has no orange peel so you'll be hard pressed to tell diff from filmed panel (fender) and non (door)

I had film on my white 07 GT3 for 4+ years and looked like new...why would I need to replace it ?

I was just curious if over time it chips with rocks, yellows, dries? It sounds like it is pretty tough.

Still, I may prefer chips over wrap.

WSH - Do you wax over the film or just leave it alone?

Polish, wax , whatever you want. Never had an issue
My PPF guy says to avoid some items (ie Plexus) that may yellow over time
But again I had it on a WHITE car for over 4 years with no issues
With the advancements in the film technology and having large enough wrap to do an entire panel without seams, dont see why anyone would want chipped paint instead. But it's your money and your car so do as you wish !

I'm not a fan. I can't get the thought of plastic furniture covers out of my mind. I can always tell it's there. The edges drive me crazy. Over time, dirt gets caught on the edged and when you go to take the film off definitely lines are visible. And last, who are you saving the paint for?

We are saving the paint for the same person that we are also helping avoid the massive depreciation hit we will take on our new car purchase! We, the American buyers of Porsches, are the most considerate and generous folks in automotive history. We wrap them in plastic, hardly put miles on them, fail to run them hard when we do drive them, park them nightly in heated/AC garages and trade them in at excessive losses to dealers that like to take advantage of us, regularly & often. Where are you from? Why don't you know this drill by now?

Saludos, z356 (Carmel)

PS I recommend full hood cover, rather than partial. I did that on my Spyder. Expensive but worth it (especially for the next guy!). Yes, I drank the Kool-Aid too.

You want to talk about depreciation? I plan to enjoy this car with no worries for 5 years and then give it to my brother at a 100% loss. It will be my daily driver. To me, having to worry so much about it takes all the fun out of it. That's another reason I am glad I didn't spend the extra $50K on the Italian Tractor or Super Fiat. In other words, I plan on getting my money's worth!

Installer is the key. Many who are adamant about its looks, likely have not seen one properly applied. Here is an example of a bad install:
