I can only speak for the European spec, but over here it's:
991 Carrera: Black dials
991 Carrera S: White rev counter, the other dials black
The same goes for the new Boxster (just ordered a new 981 Boxster S )

the rev counter is "silver" and can be done in black on "S" for no charge.
my qualm: the silver gauge shows the cutouts for the lights underneath (turn signal, traction control, check engine, etc..) which i find annoying.. the black does not show the cutouts.

Kinda like a gussied up Buick inside.............cute little automatic transmission too. Yep, 997 will be my last Porsche.

Saw the launch car in white with tan interior. Sat in the car and my impression was that the car seemed huge - although, I admit, it could have been exaggerated by the light color. The incline and size of the console is a clear message from Porsche that the standard now is PDK. Manual transmissions are now the exception rather than the rule. The build quality is exceptional, of course, but it is so clear that this is not the sports car it used to be. This is a true GT - comfortable, spacious, and easy to drive. Most of the gentlemen I saw test driving the car drove with the seat back and their arms extended.
I know what they say - that this is a vastly different car than its predecessor and that it is a vastly improved sports car. But the looks, the feel of that electronic steering system and that damn PDK just makes it look and feel like a fast Lexus to me. Fast, but no character.
I came looking to buy, I came away happy to keep what I had. Yes, its faster. And bigger. And lower. And just plain better. But it ain't no sports car. And I could never have as much fun with it as I do when I row through the gears on my old 997. And, yea, I know that everything I said here (with the exception of the PDK) was said when the 996 was introduced. But I stand by it nonetheless.

Every time a new 911 comes along previous gen owners hate! Human nature is so freaking predictable. People tell themselves what they want to hear. It's always the same; "it's no longer a true sports car, it's a GT!"
Newsflash: to the guy in the Lotus Elise/Exige, these are all big cushy GT cars.

I was implying that since you've never driven a manual 991, why the rush to judgment? Because you sat in a 991? Wait to drive one at least before you complain about it. And the absurd Lexus comment, which model is the 991 compatible to? Please enlighten us.

C'mon man, you cannot be serious. The executives and lead designers and engineers at Porsche, who lets assume understand sports cars better than you , spend countless tens of millions in R&D to bring a new 911 to market, and, according to you, they failed in the most fundamental way imaginable, namely in making the new 911 a sports car.
I'm glad you like your 997.

Again, this is my opinion. It is how I feel. As such, it is not a matter that anyone should debate - you are entitled to your opinion, too.
As for my 997..... well, you're right. I love it. I love a lot of my cars. I hope you love yours.

Nothing says "CHEEZY" like a blue interior!
Looks like it came out of some old Buick.
