James, stop posting last week's times from my local office-to-home race.
Nobody cares about them either.

I can honestly say that the numbers are meaningless to me as a purchase motivator.

Do I enjoy seeing them generated? Of course. Do I care if an R8 is "faster" than a 911? Nope.
If quickness is NOT a motivator, and Miata's are so fantastic, why not save yourself $50k then? Brakes and exhaust systems are cheap.

Interesting. 991S 1/4 mile time/trap is almost exactly what they got with the boxster spyder

spyder: 12.8@109.4
991S: 12.9@109.2

The near identical trap speeds means that they are both putting about the same amount of power to the ground

***EDIT: Nevermind, the quarter mile time was for the R8, not the 991. 991 time was 12.7@113.2

The inside line trap time is:

1/4-Mile (sec @ mph): 12.7 @ 113.2 (13.0 @ 111.7 w/ TC on)

Whoops... My mistake. I quoted the R8 time. Looks like the 991 does put down significantly more power with a trap speed of 113 vs 109mph.

I suspect this has been going on for far longer than you state, probably since the early 70's IMHO.

BTW here's the insideline's test of a 997.2 S CAB PDK:

http://www.insideline.com/porsche/91...and-video.html

0-60 mph (sec.) 4.2
1/4-mile (sec. @ mph) 12.4 @ 111.8

Something is definately OFF.

I like the way the 911 looks, the steering feel, the quality of the build and materials. I also don't fit in a Miata at 6'5".

And, I'll gladly admit I like the prestige. It's a nice car and I like nice things...reminds me why I bust my ***.

The 911 sounds like they've done away with the off/on sport exhaust. Big improvement in sound. To my ears the R8 sounds just slightly better.

The 997 cabriolet was with PDK tranny, while the 991S coupe was with a standard manual? The power difference between the 997 and 991 is not significant. I think chassis/handling is where the meat of the changes are.
