I think the concept of having a 911 built exactly the way you want it is awesome. That is what I did with mine in 2005. 145-150 K though, gulp...you can buy some serious automotive iron, slightly used, for that.

The reason for the yellow 911 tag is the interior will be a grey (I would like to do the same grey as the GT3 - but not going with color to sample) with yellow stitching and seat belts. Yellow tach gauge only - like the ones you see in the Ferraris. So I thought is maybe fun to have the tag in yellow - but may change my mind.
Your wife is like mine however I don't dare approach the 991 possibility...LOL.

I have seen this comment a few times. Please explain the 19" vs 20" wheel sizes. I understand the "makes the brakes look small" statements - other than that - what are you guys experiencing with the 20s? Ride quality? Appearance?
I do not have any experience with the 997s. The newest Porsche that I have owned, other than my wife's 2010 Cayenne GTS is a 97 993 C4S. I am working on a 930 hotrod project then a long hood R/RSR interpretation. So the newer models I haven't really followed in detail.
Cam may have a different take. The conventional wisdom says that rotating mass is about 6X the weight difference. For example, a 1lb difference in the 19 vs 20 would amount to the equivalent weight difference of 6lbs. I switched from 19s to 18s on my 997 and noticed a better ride and handling. It was not night-and-day but it was noticeable to me. Enough to the point I now prefer to get the smallest and lightest set-up possible.
Does anyone like the wheels on the white 991 that CamsP posted? Those are one of the wheels available for the Carrera S. And yes, I want to order it in Carrera White - possibly with white wheels. But I am thinking about these.

Alstoy is correct on weighting and the effect of additional weight however I'm referring to appearance and ride quality.
20's will have a lower side wall and as a result be a stiffer tire and hence you'd feel the road imperfections and perhaps have greater noise once they wear out.
I suppose the change from 20's to 19's would be insignificant but I'm willing to bet one would feel a ride quality difference.
Also, I wonder what the appearance would look like when you compared 19's to 20's. Would the 19's appear too small in the larger context of the 991 body? Dunno. Too early to tell on this car and I feel the rim design would either pronounce it or not...
<<<< on my 997 these are 19's with a slight lower using H&R springs. Perfect IMO. Will the 19's on a 991 with a slight drop be as nice with the larger body? TBD...

You CANNOT order 19inch with Carrera S! Which is one of the DUMBEST things about 991!
Sorry to keep bumping - not intentional - just trying to make a decision even though I have a few months.
My though on the CS is a "tribute", if you will, to the classic 911s - the 67 to 72 cars. But with the RS look. So the duck tail is my number one option. I would do a exterior "color to sample" but Porsche is not doing them in the 991 line as of yet.
-20" wheels (comes with the CS) (maybe painted white if the car is white)

-Sport Design Package
-PCCB
-PDK with PASM, etc.
-Full leather with alternate color stitch on the dash, door panels and seats (probably grey with yellow stitch)
-Leather rear option

-Sport steering (once you use this you will never want anything else)
-Aluminum package or CF package
-Bose or Burmeister
-Sport steering wheel
-Auto dimming mirrors
-Some other options that are too expense
-Maybe a custom Porsche logo with the strip above and below on the doors - like the older 911S models
-Dealer also said that they could dismantle the seats and paint the hardbacks to match the car color. Porsche does not offer this as of yet.
Planning on keeping the car awhile. Try and get a used 11 GTS-RS in 2-3 years or so. Let some else take the hit on something that will not be driven as much as this car. Hopefully - as long as the economy doesn't totally keep going down - then alot less disposable income coming from my company.

Disagree on the sport steering, I had it on one of my previous bimmer and hated it. I felt disconnected, the car was steering for me. Felt too light and you get no feedback. A lot of Auto journalists actually advised to avoid that option on the BMW for sporty driving.
But then again, maybe the Porsche one is different than the BMW one.
Don't get too exotic on the contrasting stitching. In time every stitch gets darker and will lose its look.
Having seen many 991s lately here in town I can tell you that it is a great looking car and it will also be a winner in sales for Porsche. (Also, keep in mind that the white color on a Porsche is a Carrara White--not Carrera. Named after the source of marble in Italy.)
Buying (and ordering) a Porsche is done with the heart, not the head. Think ahead to what you will later regret that you skipped on. Then add that to you list. I spent a lot of time on the Rennlist in 2005 reading the comments from those who were 'waiters' and saw what was popular and what made sense to order. Some things are more expensive to add later. Some easy. Just be patient as you assemble your car.
Okay, I am going to be ordering a new 991 Carrera S in December or January. This all came about because my wife gives me the approval to order a new GT3 RS after she saw the Porsche display at the Rennsport Reunion. Local dealership confirmed that no GT cars were being built (except the 997 GTS). So after alot of debate GTS - Turbo - 991, I decided to go with the new 991 Carrera S. However my options right now are putting the car at $145K - $150K. Its heavily optioned, obviously, with some special items that you can only find out by getting with the dealer's build sheets - not online.
Is this nuts - for a Carrera S? Keep in mind that this body style is around for 14 years. Also my GT3 RS build was about $165K. 2 totally different cars and 2 totally different drives. This will be my first new 911 - have had other used 911s, including turbos, sc, and a 993 C4S. So I wanted something different and not the usual - so the options got away from me alittle.

I'm confused... if your interest was a 3.8 GT3 RS how come you decide to plunk the same amount of money (or more) on a 991 which is a softer, more isolated/refined Grand Touring car? A 3.8 RS is still available. Not to order, but on dealers' lots or pre-owned with very few miles. An awesome car, with a far greater 911 soul than the 991 has.
