AGE OLD DEBATE: CARRERA V. CARRERA S
Sorry to bring up a topic that has been debated in the 997 forum. In terms of $$$ value (based upon standard equipment), is the Carrera S the best way to go? Would it be better to option out a base Carrera or get the Carrera S? There is a spread of $14K between models ($82K V. $96K). Can anyone provide a comprehensive listing of the standard upgrades included in the "S" package. Thanks in advance.

The big ticket items are PASM and 20" wheels. If you are adding them to a non-S (they are standard on the S), the additional power begins to look like a bargain.

Three Wheelin'
Also bigger brakes (6piston), not possible on the base car. All in all I think the S is the way to go.
HP is more than enough but these little extra's on the S make it to me a no brainer. And 50 ponies extra is not bad too.

FYI, Porsche's website will allow you to compare all of the standard features and technical data.

+1. I got a fully loaded base and .2 seconds faster in a 0-60 makes no difference to me. I could care less about PASM. And my 19 inch rims are big enough. If you want 20 inch rims, a .2 second faster 0-60 and bigger brakes, go with the S. If not, load up on the base like I did. On a side note, 20 inch rims, reallly???

There is something pretty sweet with that 3.4l pumping out 350 hp. I imagine it sounds much raspier and would think it revs up quicker then the 3.8 as well.

Personally, which is what any of these questions and decisions are, I would go for the Carrera S. It is what I am going to choose. I went to the new 911 website and watched a lot of the videos. They are very good and explain many things well. As for the options I will get I am not as sure about that.

If only daily drive, comfort, better mpg, long trips, etc... is the main use, the Carrera is more than enough, specially in 991 form (as it has 19inch wheels which will be much more suitable for street).
Carrera S, IF you track, is more of a weekend car than daily, you REALLY use that extra power.
