As of today, it's a $1500 option. I have rarely used the sunroofs in my three previous coupes, BUT I do like having the option to put the windows down and open the roof, so I'll probably get it. I agree it looks dorky open, but I figure I'll be driving and won't have to look at it (just like I don't have to look at myself driving). The way they lowered the roofline, I don't think they could sacrifice much more headroom.

The 911 has been referred to a "sunroof coupe", since it has nearly always been a standard feature, and people have complained about the rarity of sunroof-delete cars. I predict with this new contraption and it's pricetag, the sunroof might become rare - kind of ironic.
Then again, the typical Porsche buyer checks off options with little regard to price, so maybe it's just smart marketing? In fact, I'll take it one step further, I bet Porsche makes it a mandatory option on early cars to simplify production!

I think they should add something to this marketing crap...

Our experienced engineers are determined that this new opening will also enable a natural fingerlock for any person who happens to have their fingers while you open or close the sunroof.

God who can let something like this happen.... Only germans ; )

Too much like a Targa. The Roll Bar will make a comeback.

I *think* the BIG reason for this is to make the car VERY EASILY a Targa, just replace the metal roof with Glass and call it Targa!

New roof transport system
As with the previous models, the new 911 Carrera Coupé models have the option of a new roof transport system with two lockable aluminum crosspieces for anchoring in the side roof sills. The mounting for the roof transport system has been completely redesigned and is invisible from the outside, integrated under the roof seals of the body shell. This made it possible to dispense with the roof edge trims of the predecessor models and make the roof even more harmonious in appearance.

I am big sunroof user. This looks really wrong in the photos. Hopefully it will look better in person.

So when I went to build my 991 there is no glass sunroof option. Any thoughts on it being available? I hope so.

Cheers,

I'm not sure why, but this has become a big deal for me. I would LOVE to get a 991 without a sunroof. At the very least, Porsche should give us the option.

The 991 comes standard without the sunroof. You have to pay $1500 to get one as an option.
