Good call!
I was hoping it signaled the design of an interesting two-stage rear wing deployment system.
This screen shot pretty much confirms it's part of the engine lid cover. It's a shame couldn't make the engine lid narrower; having it follow the line of the rear window. Unfortunately it looks like the width of the engine lid grew to match the spoiler.
I always loved how the design of the rear quarter panel flowed from the roof down across the fender to the taillights without any additional panels or gaps...

The panels and gaps don't strike me as a big deal- especially since the wider spoiler looks better than the old "engine cove up" look, and is also far more functional. it works as well as a ducktail without looking like a retro cartoon.
