2012 (991) Porsche 911 prototype fire
#3
Ruh roh. Expected timeline :
2013 : many Porsches catch fire. Enthusiasts say the problem is blown out of proportion because only people with flaming Porsches post on the internet, and all the people whose Porsches aren't on fire don't post. Many threads appear on rennlist where people chime in "I have a 991 and it's not on fire".
2014 : Porsche silently changes the double-row of lighter fluid in the engine bearings to single-row. Many enthusiasts claim this fixes the problem (which they claim wasn't really a bad problem to begin with)
2015 : PCNA says flaming Porsches are the result of owners over-revving them or using them on the track. Fine print is added to the manual that warns "use of R-comps may cause spontaneous combustion"
2016 : LN Engineering produces non-flammable engine kit. Many on rennlist accuse them of being scare-mongers and say "my engine's not on fire and I see no reason for this expensive procedure". Many rennlist threads appear suggesting the flaming Porsches are the owners' fault for taking too many short trips or using the wrong oil.
2017 : Porsche releases 991.2 "face lift" which removes the integrated wet lighter fluid sump from the engine design.

Nice one, AYH...
Is it me or do those pictures look like they could have been photoshopped?
"Unfortunately, fire crew were unable to save the 991 911, they say it burnt to a crisp in less than 15 minutes. "
Maybe my definition of burned to a crisp and is different than theirs but I'm thinking how did this happen when the fireman is on the scene and the car is not close to being engulfed in flames. Maybe I'm thinking too much!

So if 458 Italias spontaneously combust even when parked causing the Porsche to catch fire... so...that must mean we can't blame the Porsche for being in the wrong place at the wrong time unless its driver was aware of that nasty little Ferrari trait then it's still not the cars fault its the Porsche driver's and the Ferrari's fault! Whew!

So Porsche has not confirmed the existence of the fire, but a new prototype mysteriously appeared at the local dealer and testing continued? The dealership would not comment.
