I think a "glass" sunroof would look like crap on the lighter colored 911s, as it would be very visible ALL THE TIME. Not an issue on the darker colors, but I still prefer a painted sunroof panel on our cars, if we must have one.

Anyone else think the side-vents on the 991 spy shots look like decals? Check out the reflection in the upper right corner of it...same as on the adjacent body panel. That "vent" is flat.

Not true, BMW M Coupe (based on Z3) had just tinted glass - no shade cloth option - probably was hot as hell in the summer however.

Perhaps Porsche will take another page from BMW and offer a CF panel as an alternative.
I see that for sure. And they'll charge long dollars for it too!

And how many M Coupes did they sell?

Obviously a shade is not required by law, but it is required by customers.

Like a couple thousand - maybe!

Yup...but with the 6-series style sunroof design, as was correctly surmised based on that last photo (should be able to slide back over the roof as well as tilt/vent), no cutting required.

I'd recommend getting a pair of Rx sunglasses and leaving them in the car solely for driving. I know what you mean about having to carry around two pairs of glasses; that is a pain. Having them in the car is fantastic though. I got a pair a couple years ago solely for driving and they never leave my car. I wish I would have got them years sooner.

The poll misses both uses.

[QUOTE=Da Hapa;7350608]I drive 90+% of the time with the sunroof fully retracted. However, if I was given the option when I bought mine, I would have selected the delete sunroof option.

Can't believe they included it in the base price of the car... Porsche doesn't give anything away.... Nice around town but not usable at freeway speeds... Headliner will beat itself to death....

If the option was available I would've got my 997 with sunroof delete. However, since I have it I've discovered I absolutely love it. The wind baffle is great, I find it to be nice up to about 60 mph.

That huge sunroof on the 991 looks mighty nice. As much as I don't need to buy a new car, I'm getting excited about that thing.

Not sure I'm loving that new sunroof. Aesthetically from the exterior, it looks pretty bad. The neat and tidy hole in the top we have now seems perfect and classic, all the way back to the '50s. I'd just prefer not to be driving down the road with the top of the car hanging off the back covering half the rear glass - seems a bit clunky to me. Perhaps worst new feature I have seen unless there is some yet to be revealed cleverness.

Default 22% of you will be happy to see the 991.

If only for the clear sunroof.

Where does that leave the Targa, me wonders?

I see the Targa phasing out with the new 991 roof. One less variant maybe?

Coupe, Clear roof Coupe ($Option), and Cabrio

+ Turbo, GT2, GT3, etc. etc. etc.

just speculating
