i think your right, however wouldnt that add more weight to the already heavy rear???

To me it appears that the side intakes are faux. If you notice in the pic above, there is a reflection of the landscape on the painted body that match the glare on the intake which suggest that it is a vinyl stick-on.

I think those headlights are being distorted by the plastic stuck around the top. I don't think they are a departure from the 997.

Based on what I am seeing, I don't expect much departure from current styling at all. Not sure how anyone can speculate on size, weight, wheelbase, etc. Without a measuring tape that stuff is impossible to discern when we are talking about a few inches on a digital photo.

I suspect the head lights are vinyl decals as well...there is absolutely no depth to them as all the details are on the surface. Another part of the give away is the light glare on the passenger side. It should to reflect/deflect some of that light with all the shinny mirrored plastic they normally contain.

+1000 - Negative buzz can be the most talked about buzz. Get the all the Porschephiles up in arms about a VW badge on a 911 and you've reached a lot of people within your target demographic.

I don't know why they bother covering these cars up. I'd imagine that on seeing it in the flesh, even a porsche enthusiast would probably think it's a Ruf custom job or something like that rather than the next gen 911. Putting all those coverings on it means that people know it's a Porsche development car.

Those pics do show dramatic changes versus the 997. The glass and roof looks new (997 has the 996 greenhouse) and the body is more curvacious - I like it! Interior should be all new also. Doubt we'll see significant engine or transmission (or layout) changes. Based on the 996 timeline, the new 911 should appear as soon as summer 2011!
