Default WMM7 Workshop campaign - VTS replacement

I am seeing advice. We are looking at a 2019 Porsche 911 4S. It is CPOed, but we have found that it still has 3G connectivity. The dealer is saying that it is 3400 to replace the VTS.
We haven't bought the car yet, but if it is CPOed, one of the checklist items is "Porsche Connect", shouldn't it have failed the CPO process?
Also, the campaign doesn't seem to have a time limit, shouldn't it still be free?

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Have you put these questions to the dealer?

Yes. The response was that the precious owner had to do it during the orginal warranty.

If this is the same dealership who want to change your tires 4 times in a year, then move on.
How can they CPO the vehicle if it had item(s) that not passed the CPO check list?

it was an opt-in free upgrade provided you were actively subscribed to the service at the time.

it is no longer a free upgrade and costs a hefty sum to replace because it involves removing the dash.

porsche connect is largely considered to be something between "not worth it" and "totally useless" so realistically you're not missing out on much.

it is not part of the CPO process as it is an opt-in service.

it really, really sounds like you need to walk away from not only this car, but the dealer.

Let me clarify a little bit, tires and car are 2 different dealers, as this thing needs to get shipped.
I think we got it worked out for the VTS, that we aren't going to pay for it. The fact of the matter is, while i see that it could be "not worth it", it is hard to buy a car that isn't fully working.

you've lost me at "that isn't fully working"

do you intend to pay for a porsche connect subscription and utilize those services?

Yes, that was the plan, as we find the features useful on our other vehicles.

Ah, that's gonna be a big bummer if you're looking for a 991 then. Between what seems like a low adoption rate of the service in the first place and the general phobia of the dash being removed for the upgrade causing problems leading people to stop the service they had, I don't think many of them were updated.

They have agreed to replace it for free after we asked the CPO. We are good now! Thanks everyone

I just bought 2017 and am unable to connect. Porsche tells me to talk to the dealer — the dealer says Porsche will fix it. I am underwhelmed by the customer service and find it hard to believe Porsche would allow their tech to become obsolete in such a short time without carrying the responsibility of providing a cost free solution.

Cost free solution is not in the Porsche vocabulary

I rarely do this, but today is a PSA for all future 991 buyers

<soapbox>

I was one of the original owners that opted not to have the update done on my Carrera T. I had the free Porsche Connect services for 1 year, and used it maybe a handful of times - I found it to be highly unreliable as 7/10 times it would not connect to the car. Carplay is far more important, and if you want to track your vehicle, just buy an airtag (much cheaper and more reliable). Remote lock/unlock is useless as is the ability to send an address to the car's nav system; and really - if you can't recall your tire pressures or fluid/fuel levels while you are away from the car, you need to develop a weekly routine to check them (I do mine on Saturdays, for all the cars).

Now if you are of the Android persuasion, I'd advise you to just get a old iPhone for your 911. It *still* much cheaper and more performant!

The other thing I took into consideration...my car has no rattles at all in the dash...I really didn't want a tech (even a good one) tearing into the dash unnecessarily. Those things can be seriously hard to track down and fix if they "appear".

</soapbox>

^ What this guy says. CarPlay is where it's at. Even a 991.1 can be upgraded for a small fraction of $3500.
