No, 2 years since last bumper off service. I'm guessing the plastic just broke like others.
In most cars you loss some and you win some but the only ****ing thing I'm missing in this one is the PDK crapping out...
Yep. It's a thing. Mine didn't totally dump the whole way out a few months back, but caught about half way on the wiring because it was in town driving. If you have a good relationship with your dealer, you may be able to get "goodwill repair", as mine did. Short of that, Suncoast is the least expensive option. Easy to replace once its in hand.
Very inadequate design on these tail lights and yes, this is common.
The 'fix' was some metal banding. My car has these updated ones but as I found out it still doesn't prevent the plastic screw bosses from breaking. May just keep the tail light from falling completely out. Last time I removed my tail lights I discovered one was flopping around on this metal band. I since JB Welded and Gorilla glued the crap out of both tail light brackets to maybe buy me some more time.
Don't necessarily like the look of the clears but thats probably the route I'll go since they are half the cost. I'm not too keen on paying big money on some salvage/used tail lights since those are most likely ready to break too.
Weird and something I guess I'll need to keep an eye out for. I'd have thought the harness would provide some degree of retention to allow the light housing to flop about (+ scratch up the rear bumper) until the harness or connector gave way. Not saying it'd be enough to hear it flopping about but at least enough for someone to honk and/or flash their brights at you as some sort of indicator.
Still don't understand. Didn't it had like 2 bolts on each of them, and 1 adjustment bolt? Did the taillight housing just break away from all the bolts? Or the bolt just pops off?

There is a bracket that attached to the taillight. The bolts go in the bracket. The issue is that the taillight pulls away from the bracket. This is why people put extra glue where the bracket attaches to the taillight. Has nothing to do with the bolts.
