Default 991.2 Headlamp

Hello,

I have a 2019 Carrera.

I got an indication on my instrument cluster that I have a headlamp failure. I have gone outside the car while it is running and I can confirm that I see one of my headlamps is out.

I'm pretty sure I just need to pull the unit out and replace the bulb however, the Porsche dealership near me told me without even looking at the car that I need an entire new headlamp unit at the cost of $7000

Can you please advise and confirm what the correct remedy is? I have a hard time believing it $7000 to fix a headlamp on a car that's a few years old and only has 13,000 miles.

Any help is appreciated, the warning says low beam failure.

So it looks like you have a 2019 tts with PDLS plus LED headlights. PET shows the LED lamps, but no part number, so maybe you will have to replace the entire unit, I am not sure. $7K sounds about right. The headlight assembly retails for about $5K, you have to remove the front bumper on the .2s to remove the headlight assembly. Then, you will have to code the new headlight.

There are no bulbs or replaceable parts in the LED headlights, you need a new headlight, order online and save some of that $7k.

I am sure.

Here is a photograph of the headlamp. I am sorry it's not the best one. Can you guys determine from this? It's the top little light in that cluster that is out. The 4 dots and the bottom beam (which is the highbeam) all work.

A 2019 with 13,000 miles that's been pampered will now need a $5,000 fix for a headlamp that's out?? I'm having a tough time with that hahaha

Ah my friend, the end of days of servicing cars are upon us and Porsche is at the forefront.

If a sensor on the PDK goes out you will need a new $20k transmission because it is also not serviceable.

FWIW there are shops that service/repair PDK transmissions.

this car has the upgraded full LED headlight as well, same unit as the TTS.
Unfortunately a similar story with most other full LED light manufacturers these days (Audi, BMW, even Honda).

The individual lights cannot be replaced and the whole thing needs to be replaced as one unit. I will say it is a bit strange that yours has failed so prematurely, LED lights should in theory last the car’s life time without needing to be replaced. I wonder if one of the modules has some issue, or if it’s an actual LED failure.

Your best bet might be finding a close to new light on eBay (~1k) and paying an Indy Porsche shop to install (likely ~300-400$).
But the risk there is most on eBay are sold without the modules, if it’s a module issue, you will still have a problem. I believe the OEM assembly (4.5k) will come with new modules.

Glad had mine spec'd with HID Xenon - you can easily replace the bulb with either HID or LED without replacing the entire assembly. Best of luck to the OP!

If it makes you feel any better, the "smart" LED tail lights on my 2023 F-150 are sealed assemblies, and cost $1000. Each.
