Default 991.1 long term reliability

Hello, I am in the market for .1C2, with under 40K miles. It looks like prices ranges from 75K-90K. Would you all recommend going with CPO or getting PPI done on a example from 3rd party sales or private sale. I am a DIY buyer, as long as nothing major comes up.

So the question is how reliable are 991.1s? Given I will handle all the maintenance items.

For a piece of mind, have a PPI done. How many owners? Any service history? As for reliability, it's a Porsche. They last forever. Yes you can find bad ones (if you search hard enough) but for every bad one there's 5000 good ones. Don't let the internet put the fear of God in you when it comes to buying the car. Take it for a ride, listen to it, get underneath it, etc. They are awesome cars and you won't regret it. All I can say is Welcome to the addiction!

Thanks! I agree, personally I wouldn’t buy it without service history.

The current 991.1 Targa 4S popped up at a dealership, CPO. I am comfortable with this dealership & did not do a PPI, but any place else or individual sale, would have been different. Almost three years & 40K miles down the road with no problems. Only CPO claim was for PADM. For piece of mind, I did a Fidelity Platinum with Trent at Highline when the CPO ran out.

The dash indicates I should go through the 80k mark next week & preparing for the annual road trip next month. Will be pretty close to 10K miles returning after the 4th. I am more concerned about the driver making it than the car. If the car is well maintained, it will outlive me. The youngster is planning to take it to 250K :-) I have no doubt the car will make it!

Enjoy the search & every mile. As Viper mentioned, “welcome to the addiction”.

edit: I should have mentioned that after almost 80K miles, not a single rattle, squeak or leak. What more can you ask for?

Eventually everything will wear out but at 40K the car should still be driving like new.

I put 140K on my CPO'ed 991.1 and my CPO'ed 991.2 has 60K and they have been rock solid.

I also like to DIY but I do let the dealer deal with the PDK transmission services.

Buying CPO'ed cars really gave me piece of mind knowing they were fully serviced before buying.

There are a few aftermarket warranty companies discussed on here if you were to buy through a non-Porsche dealer or private party.

Please excuse my ignorance as I am new to the arena -- if you purchase a CPO from Porsche dealership - you do not need to perform an independent PPI, correct?

it depends if you trust the dealership

cpo means repairs are covered but i still wouldn't want to drive away with a car that has hidden issues

for what it's worth, i picked up a cpo 991.1 earlier in the year, did not get a PPI since i have done business with this dealer before and trusted their assessment of the vehicle

Correct. The dealer thats warranting the car will go through everything that needs to be done so a Indy isn't needed. Thats why it's called Porsche Certified pre-Owned.

These cars can be a CPO with paint repairs, so that could be a concern. PPI can’t hurt, I’m not a huge fan of trusting car salesman.

Get a paint meter and check it yourself to make sure you’re not finding out later that a panel was re-sprayed if that’s a concern to you, or the next buyer.

Exactly, a PPI is always a smart move, there could be things "wrong" with it the dealership/salesman might not be aware of depending on the dealership inspection and information pipeline.

@Irfan My contact information is below is you find a non-CPO Porsche you're interested in, I can provide top notch Fidelity and Freedom Warranty extended warranty coverage, repairs accepted at both dealership and licensed independents. Coverage lengths, deducible options, pricing and example contracts that explain coverage are all available. Good luck on your search!

Couldn’t agree more. Picked up a 16S Macan with 48K miles, CPO. It was 3 hrs away from me, after leaving the dealership within 20 min, saw the headliner was sagging, called right way they said they will take care of it. However told them I will bring it back next month. So within this month, I found out all of the four wheels were missing lug, yea all 4 were missing wheel lock or nut. Also within a week break pad sign came up for the rear, also the rear trunk struts making noice. They did take care of every single items, and met me half way so I didn’t have to drive 3hrs back and forth. I blindly trusted them due to CPO, boy I was wrong. However they did apologize and became my go to Porsche dealer for excellent customer service. In line for Macan EV for the wife.

FYI, a lot of owners do their own services, and better than a dealer's technician..

I have bought used several times, and find Fidelity’s warranty has been a life saver. For a few thousand, protecting the $10k engine and $15k transmission is well worth it.

everyone’s risk tolerance is different, but for me I think it’s worth the insurance.
