Default 991.2 C4S rear spoiler not extending automatically

I was caravan’ing to a PCA event this morning and my buddy behind me radioed to inform me that my spoiler was not extending at speed on the freeway. Sure enough, glancing in the rearview I did not see it. I was hoping that simply shutting the car down at the event and then starting it back up again for the drive home would resolve the issue but no such luck. Spoiler would still not extend automatically on the drive home. However, it does work fine in manual mode so this feels like a potential issue with a speed sensor or something along those lines, though I’ll admit to not having a complete grasp of the system’s functionality so perhaps I’m overlooking something basic here. Oh, and not getting any kind of error message or anything on the dash.

Curious if anyone else has experienced this issue. Figured I’d ask here before scheduling it for warranty work at the local center.

Thanks,
Eric

When you say "at speed", what speeds are you referring to?
It deploys at ~ 75mph.
If you had an error with your system, your spoiler light would be flashing.

I've had the opposite happen. My spoiler deploys and then seemingly gets stuck. This has happened a few times a season, even had the local Porsche dealer have a look, found no issues.

When my spoiler gets stuck, I do a reset.

Park the car, turn it on and then hold the spoiler button for a while. Likely 30 seconds. It should start closing.

Caveat, I do this when mine is stuck up, not sure how/if this will work for you.

Actually mine’s always deployed at 45mph or thereabouts. But at the moment it’s not deploying at 45 OR 75. :-)

I’ll give that a try, thanks.

From premature to dysfunctional? Lots of cures on the net, but best see a specialist.

The .2 extends at speeds quite a lot less that 75 unlike earlier models. There should be an alarm if the is a request but no extension. That tells me there is no request.

I cannot see my spoiler from any mirror.

Definitely sounds like there’s a major problem with mine however you cut it. I’ll schedule a service.

Thanks Van. I was pretty sure that was the case with the .2. I’ve always been able to see the top inch or so of mine in the rearview mirror of my 4S, but my buddy cannot see his in his Targa 4 GTS (same gen) with its very different back glass and roof components behind the rear seats. Rear end design definitely affects whether you can see it or not.

I saw mine on Sunday, a rare happening but I had the sunroof open and was in boost quite a few times. spoiler must have been standing almost straight up.

Default Resolved itself

I detest problems that fix themselves but this one mysteriously has. Didn’t work at all on Monday but yesterday was working fine, deploying at 45mph just as it should. Guess she was just grumpy on Monday and needed a good night’s sleep.

Yes 45 mph. This is my first Porsche but I understand that changes were made to the 991.2 to deploy the wing at a lower speed than previous generations.

You're talking about to different things.
One is the rear spoiler extending round 40 mph if the charge air temperature is high, in order to prevent loss in performance.
The other is deploying at 75mph for stability.

If the temps are fine, then nothing will happen till you hit 75mph.

Be that as it may, it was dead as a door nail on Monday. At 80 on the freeway it remained firmly in its resting position. Not that I would ever drive above the posted speed limit save for scientific testing purposes. ;-)
