Default Autel scanners can pull overrev reports

For the 991.2 generation there aren’t a lot of scanners that can pull an overrev report. The Autel higher end units like the MP808, MS906 Pro, MS909, MS919 etc can pull it from the DME.

Path on a MP808S:
Diagnosis>Porsche>Automatic Selection>Control Unit>DME>Live Data>Timing Angle

It can also register batteries. One battery replacement and it pays for itself.

The MS906BT, at least a year or so ago, could not do this. Has this changed? I hounded them for a little over a year trying to get them to add it, but they just stopped responding to me as my service plan expiration approached.

It must have been an update. Autel customer support listed the models above as being able to pull overrevs. I purchased a MP808S and was able to pull the report

Default question about the 808s

Are you still happy with the Autel MP808s or do you think one of their higher end units would have been a better choice? Thanks in advance

Thinkdiag can pull an overrev report also at a much lower cost.

Sure enough, look at this:

Clearly, that fact that I’ve got range 1 & 2 ignitions means it’s working. A while back I had an independent shop pull the report and had all 0s. That made me wonder if they could actually read the DME or if their system just returned nulls. Yay to only range 2 overrevs! I probably introduced those on a spirited drive or at the track.

FWIW, Autel just made me update the OBDII/VCI device today. I have no idea if that made a difference.

I’m running Autel Porsche V4.10 on an Autel MaxiSys MS906 Pro. I last updated it in December of 2023 before my subscription ran out. Here’s my software versions:

This is exciting! Thanks, @itsagoose !

Im happy with it, but it really depends on what you need it for. I wanted it for routine maintenance, troubleshooting and pulling overrevs. Their website has charts showing the capabilities of the units but they are poorly done

Not only Autel. Trying to compare features of various bi-directional scanners is not made easy by any of the scan tools manufacturers or marketers. None of them provide sufficient data on their websites, nor does Amazon whose website enables viewing many different scan tools from many different makers. I need one that doesn't require an active WiFi connection to function, and certainly don't want to have to pay an annual subscription fee to retain the functionality that exists when the included updates subscription expires -- unless I later buy newer vehicles.

I've been trying to find a Pro level or near Pro level scan tool that will handle all typical maintenance and resets as well as enable some programming including the coolant temperature and boost pressure in my 2017 C2S and also enable me to do similar work on my 2011 Audi S4 and 2013 Audi Allroad so I can replace 3 scan tools [I have iCarspft POR 3.0 for my Porsche and Foxwell and Innova scan tools for my Audis] with one that is at least as capable. And a scan tool that will enable doing some logging while driving in the hope of determining the cause of a slight stutter that occasionally occurs under light throttle at about 50 MPH in 6th or 7th gear in my PDK car when ascending a slight grade in the roadway. No dashboard warnings of CEL or fault codes are appearing.
