Default Slight burning smell

Seems to be coming from the engine compartment, what to check first?

That is the 911 smell. If the smell is not the smell of coolant. You should be fine. Are you new to this vehicle? Was an oil change just performed? Any modifications just performed. More info from you and your history with the vehicle is needed.

I just got 991.1S in December and noticed the same. I’m coming from old muscle cars that always smelled like gas and burning oil. At least in my case I’m assuming it’s a combination of brakes and clutch smell.

This is a new to me 2019 Cab,(PDK) we have had it about 8 months and it never smelled it before...(not a coolant smell, more like rubber?)
Nothing has been done to the car since I got it, about 1000 miles ago....gently driven, no hard acceleration or braking...
This is not my first 911...We had an 06 a while back and 5 Boxsters in the past few years..

The rubber smell? Yea, it's normal. I thought the same thing, I even took it to the dealer. They drove it and actually looked into it. Totally fine.

Enjoy the miles and fun times.

Was the road wet at the time? I've seen speculation that certain conditions, including wet roads, can encourage bits and pieces of rubber tire debris to land on exhaust components when they are flung up by your own tires.

Most probably cosmoline.

The distinct “Porsche smell” comes from a combination of hot rubber on the tires, oil, and the “cosmoline” coating Porsche used to apply to the engines. This is perfectly normal and something most Porsche owners learn to love.

Mine does not smell unless coming right off the Autocross then it’s the tires. Was with a bud yesterday who is reworking an 89 Vette. Whole garage smells like fuel and oil. I guess to each his own.

911s are stinky cars.

Without knowing what kind of burning smell, you're just going to get random responses about how 911s are stinky.

What does the burning smell like? Plastic? Rubber? Gasoline? Hot metal? Silicon?
