Default 991.1 Rear Impact Damage Advice

Hi all,

Posted this in my new to forum, but figured this might be a better spot to get some responses. Just purchased by 991.1 Carrera S (2013 Dark Metallic Blue) last week, and according to Murphy's Law, I had to get hit in the rear. Long story short, parked a country mile away and of course someone managed to back into it while I was inside having dinner with my kids. Anyways, few questions for the community: 1/for repair should I go to an authorized Porsche auto body shop (100 miles away) or is a highly recommended (by my local dealer) sufficient? I am leaning towards having it towed to the authorized shop. 2/Does it make sense to have the whole car painted to ensure uniformity on a ten year old car? 3/Has anyone successfully recuperated devaluation? This is a CPO car, never been in an accident, and obviously last gen NA Flat Six (perhaps I am overthinking future collector's status?). Pictures of the car after pick up and damage below. I appreciate any thoughts and ideas beyond what I might be thinking/concerned about.

Looks unfortunate but minor damage. The worst part is the damage on the quarter panel but it is repairable. Go check out the shop your local dealer recommended. Pay attention to the other cars there, what kind of quality are they, are they high end luxury cars or a bunch of Kias? I had my Tacoma repaired after a drunk driver caused an accident, and the shop I took it to had McLarens and Lambos they’re working on, all top notch A+ quality work. If the shop seems top end, working on nice cars, they’ll most likely do good work and if not they’ll be used to sorting it out to make things right if there is an issue.

Try to get the insurance company to throw you a check for depreciated value, but don’t stress about the collectibility of the car (they made 10k of those a year, not ever going to be collectible). Luckily, you weren’t planning to get rid of it soon, as you just got it. Repair it, and enjoy for a long time. Hopefully when you go to sell you’ve put a lot of smiles and miles between now and then so you’re not as worried about resale by that point.

Be cautious if your local Porsche dealer is part of a larger multi-brand dealership organization that includes other brands. In my experience you will be told to use the body shop that is owned by the organization and the bodyshop will treat the Porsche the same as a Kia or Nissan. Large volume of cars in with a quick repair turn around. Not a quick time getting your car back to you but a quick time given to the repair.

Sorry this happened, especially so soon after purchasing. What a PITA.

Think about dentless paint repair for the quarter panel. They may be able to push it out. The bumper looks undamaged and just needs repaint - at least that is what it looks like.

I would get it repaired at a Porsche certified shop. They won’t repaint your entire car. And I wouldn’t recommend it either. The car will never be collectible and wouldn’t stress. Get it fix and enjoy it.

Yes, thankfully they called the cops and left all their information - there are some decent folks left!

Definitely use a Porsche certified collision center. Hopefully things work out ok!

@CEDTSR2 Bummer but fortunately not major damage. Take LOTS of pictures and save receipts for repairs that way should you ever sell it you will have plenty of documentation to put potential buyer's minds at ease.

I would also say use a Porsche certified shop, if not just for the resale value so any future owner can be assured it's done correctly.

Sorry this happened to you! But I'm so glad to hear they were honest people. Few and far between in this world it sometimes seems!
Also, great color!

Ugh sorry. I know this sounds strange but I would have a painless dent guy try his best on that quarter panel. The bumper is an easy replacement but a repair on the quarter might be the best way forward providing nothing else moved.

Paint wise. Adjacent panels will end up being blended.

I would try to file a diminished value claim personally.

I would self-pay, so it doesn't go on Carfax. Looks like 3-4k or so at a good shop.

And that really sucks. Sorry to hear about it.

I've seen worse damage taken out by a dent repair guy. Did the paint crack?

I was thinking about that, but if I can get devaluation, better to go through insurance. I plan on keeping the car for a long time. Plus, the driver filed a claim and police report, so I’m out of luck there, unfortunately.
