Porsche finally introduced a dashcam & prewire option. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the 991.
To date, I am not aware of a way to make it work in our 2015. So what is everyone doing for a 991 dashcam?

blackvue 900, front only. wired into the right side fuse box, there is one empty slot there with only 1 prong that's power only when the ignition is on (there may be a fuse in there if you have that option in your car), that's the power and ground to frame. don't remember which one off hand. if you want one that stays on while parking you'll need a backup battery for it and a different fuse slot that is always on (most of them). apparently the new ring dashcam is getting a lot of press, never seen one in person.

garmin mini2. usb powered from glovebox usb outlet, which is switched with ignition. small and unobtrusive, easy install. if want a rear too you can pair multiples in the app.

I tried this in my 991.2 and while there is power, the light on the Garmin Mini2 stays green, as if connected to a computer. I presume this USB port in the glove box is tied to the USB selection on the infotainment (i.e. it's intended to be used with a flash drive that contains music). I don't use the USB source for infotainment. For my Mini2, I normally use the USB slot that's in the passenger's footwell, which is not tied to ignition, and is also not tied to the infotainment. This connection makes the Mini2 light red, as in recording. I suppose your 911 is different than mine.

What type of adapter do you use? Is this switched with ignition?

Thanks to you both.

obd has switched power at it. garmin sells an adaptor that is just a obd port with usb micro at far end.

I have a 2018, the usb in glovebox definitely follows accessory power. the garmin turns on and off properly and works fine. possible 2017 is different...

Have not tried, but assuming this will work from the mirror to power the USB port and no need to run a wire to the fuse box

Looking at the Escort Dashcam. I already use an Escort Redline, so it attaches to the same mount with a power jumper between the two. A little more bulk than I would like, but less install hassle.
Anyone have any experience with the Escort Dashcam ?

Anyone use one of these Fitcamx cams? The integration looks slick.

Same here but hooked up to a USB port connected to the wiring at the mirror without any damage to existing wiring.
Those USB ports are a dollar off ebay. Finished product, a few cents more.

By the way, I used the info on this site to remove the panel, etc.
