If I was a multi-millionnaire and my Pcar meant nothing to me then yes, I'd valet it like I would our Hyundai Santa Cruz. 🤣

But it's the most expensive car I've ever had and I don't trust anyone with it. My cousin always has his RS5 valet'd....2 rims have been severely curbed. No tanks!

 

The metal key is only useful to open the doors, the alarm will still sound if used.
Nothing to worry about as it's as useful to a thief as a rock.

As a general recommendation do avoid allowing unsupervised teenagers working miminum wage to drive your cars (or at least the ones you like).

 

When you buy a car to show off, you of course have to Valet it or otherwise the strangers will not see you getting out of it and your day will be ruined.

 

Not show off buddy, but I do get your point, Parking is a nightmare at that one place, I had a chance to show off later that night and I parked it myself because it was more convenient... so yeah, I guess I suck at showing off, thx tho

 

in lots of places a valet is really the only option.

i have used a valet on the 991 three times. two of the times they put the car out front so the dude drove it like 10-15 ft. the third time there were a couple of ferraris and a lambo and they drove the 911 away to the regular valet lot. boo. not cool enough apparently in that crowd. no curb rash or any problems, tho.

a few years ago at barrett jackson we used the valet on the 993. when we went to leave it was night and cold and were out there waiting at the valet stand while car after car is being retrieved. folks who had been way behind us in line are happily getting in their
cars and leaving. i'm getting annoyed at this point and i ask the manager what the heck is going on with my car. he jumps in a golf cart to find the kid trying to get my car. few minutes later the car pulls up. turns out the kid was trying to use the 991 key fob to unlock
the 993 and it obviously wasn't working. manager made a joke about millennials. all good.

 

If valet is required, I tip them $20 and park it myself.

 

Sorry for the aggro, OP, you pay for trusting people to be honest. It's not likely the key just fell out. Rekeying the car will not be pleasant, removing the door locks means taking the door cards off, and with the Porsche premium pay your pocketbook will take a hit.

Those that state that the police won't take a report are wrong. Many law enforcement agencies have a classification for this type of incident, Lost or Stolen Property, and they will issue a case number. And I know they do this from firsthand experience. Do try and see if the police agency with jurisdiction where the valet parking took place will take a report and get that case number. You may be able to do it over the phone if you give them the who, what, when, where and how of the incident. This won't be classified on the police stats as a crime, but it's done as a courtesy to help with an insurance claim. Contact your insurance company and see if you have coverage for the loss, they will likely ask if a police report was made so you'll have it. Can't hurt to try.

You're playing Russian roulette if you let a valet park any car. They have access to your car's interior apart from the key issue, you don't know these people, the business may use an independent company/contractor to valet so they distance themselves from any liability.

I worked as a valet for a few weeks one summer at a high end restaurant and I saw what goes on. you're lucky if all they do is go around the block to check your ride.

If your car is a manual, even more reason not to let them drive the car. Luckily there's Uber and Lyft nowadays, leave the Porsche at home if valet is required, problem solved.

 

Ruth Criss steakhouse in DC had three cars stolen from their valet lot twice in December......I think Benz and Beemers. Obviously sort of an inside job.
