Default Time for a 911 !

Hi everyone ,
Need your advice for my next move . The time has come when I can afford the step up to a 911 .
I’ve been driving a cayman gts 981 for the last 2 years including a few track days . The car is still under 10k miles and it’s an absolute beauty and delight . It’s going to be difficult for me to let go but the 911 is my dream car and the one you always aspire for .
I’ve come accross a 991.2 base carrera with pdk at a reasonable price and low mileage . Is it the time to pull the trigger ? Am I going to really enjoy that step up to the 991 or will I sacrifice “feeling” , “sound” or even performance at the track ?
Should I stick to my gts and wait for a possible 911 with higher specs in the future ?
any advice from 991.2 owners would be great including the ones that track the car .
thank you !

Giving everyone an update . Found the car that really gave me that good mix between comfort and race car feeling - gts 4.0 cayman .
Being flexible and open minded about the gentian blue but it’s always good to make a change . Very happy about it and thank you everyone for the help .

The base 991.2 will smoke the 981 all day long. The PSE is a must have IMHO. Put a tune on it and the car will really wake up, or just leave it alone and enjoy one of the best sports cars money can buy in stock form 😊 it is an amazing chassis and very capable at stock power levels with excellent overall balance.

Some things to keep in mind, other than having a PPI done, check the maintenance records. Even with low miles the car will be due for the 30k/4yr and 40k/4yr services due to the time, and they are not insignificant costs. You can use that as bargaining chips during price negotiations. Tires may also be nearing 5 years and due for replacement.

that’s great advice thank you . Very happy to hear performance wise I will not be sacrificing .
the 911 is 2019, with 11k Miles and CPO- do you think I should still ask for the tire change ? Anything else to be careful about ?

Agree with @MingusDew above. Lots of upside on even a base 991.2 with a tune.

Do you guys know If the car is CPO means that the service has been done ? Or it’s not related ? I may still have to do the service although the car being CPO?

Did you ask and get the CPO report?
How are the brake pads?
Any PPF on the car?
How much tread left on the tires, especially the rears?
Have you looked around for a S?
If you've always wanted a 911, get one!

Like B Russ said.
When I got the CPO on mine, the measurement for tire tread was at the acceptable limit as per CPO. Pointed that out to the sales manager.
So they included 4 new Michelin PS4S, but left the originals on. Did my first season on the originals.

I looked at CPO cars that were going to need the 4 yr service within 4 months of purchase and the dealer was unwilling to perform it because it technically wasn’t due yet. Some dealers are way cooler than others!

having a 981 and also a 991.2 in your garage is a near perfect combination, in my opinion at least.

Yes, if you only stay on pavement, but neither will get me out into the middle of Death Valley, so I’m probably keeping my Tacoma parked around back for those off-road excursions 😊 I’m guilty of owning a tool for every job imaginable lol

If it wasn't for the AWD problem, I'd be in a 981 or 982 instead of a 991. The GT4 is definitely where it's at, but even a 981 GTS is nothing to sneeze at.

I've said it many times before and I'll keep saying it -- the cayman is an objectively better platform than the 911. Porsche just won't let it be faster than their flagship.

My dealer called me and hinted they were ready to give me more and a better discount if I decided to buy the car then.
So glad I did.

2018 991.2 C2 Base PDK owner here. I have owned this car for two years now and tracked this car 2 weekends a year for the past two years on a small (2 mile) momentum/technical track (Grattan near Grand Rapids MI). My car is completely stock and feel it is a very competent car for track use in stock form. I have done HPDE for 10 years and previously endurance raced for 2 years. And, even though I am a pretty conservative driver, I don't often have to point cars by running in the Advanced and Instructor groups and am running within about 4 seconds/lap of top spec Miata racers. My 2018 feels surprisingly close to my old 1987 911 that was set up for track use. It has those 911 characteristics of light front end, weight in the rear that allows power down early but, with the extra HP and TQ it does everything so much quicker. The PDK is fantastic for track use as all shifts are quick and perfect. If pushing the car on track with traction control on, watch your rear brakes as they will be used at an alarming rate! Upgrades for track use for next year include a dedicated set of track wheels with Cup 2 tires most likely. Possibly upgrading the brake pads but will see how next season goes.
