Lightbulb Bypass for the 991.1 GTS

Hi all! I'd like to get a bypass on my 991.1 GTS; something that improves the sound on acceleration, but nothing too crazy and without drone. I know the right way would be to get an aftermarket exhaust, but the regulations in my country make that almost impossible. So the only option is to keep original parts and do a careful/hidden bypass that only an expert would be able to find. I reached out to a local workshop that is well-known for their craftmanship and having done dozens of handmade bypasses for 997 and 981.

Their proposal is connecting the pipes as marked in blue in the diagram below. Basically, after the cat, part of the fumes would go directly to the tails, while part would go to muffler "1" as normal. They say this will improve sound. What do you think of this approach? Assume the aftermarket option is not doable... thanks!

I believe you already have Sport Exhaust because it's a GTS. If so, I wouldn't mess with it. Not worth the trouble or expense. But if you really feel compelled to do it, I'd see if there is a customer car that's had this modification that you can hear for yourself, before you move ahead. There's really no other way to know.

Thanks Lippy. Yep, got PSE. Unfortunately it would be their first 991... so feel a bit nervous about doing this. Is this a coin toss or is there a way to know beforehand? thanks!

Anyone has experience with bypasses in this exhaust? Would any other connections make more sense (e.g., bypassing side mufflers instead of center). Thanks

So, you just want it to be louder?

My goal is to improve the higher pitch when accelerating, which is kind of softened (compared for example with the 981) and make it more throaty. That’s my goal, not sure I will achieve it with this. Any opinions?

I have the awe on my 991.1 gts. I think it sounds great. Loudish when valves are open and quiet when they are closed.

Barely crack open one of the union / couplers going into the center exhaust... its just 2 bolts, easy to access. See how you like that sound

Haha... sorry.. nothing to read in my statement. The Cayman guys do it and many love it, however, hence suggesting it.

Not very helpful to you, but I purchased a Sharkwerks center muffler bypass for my NON-PSE and wow do I love it. Agree that the normal stuff is a bit too quiet.

I would recommend Carnewal, these guys are in EU by the way, and they make mods to stock exhaust that may work for you.

Default 200 cell cats to weld in to purchase ???

This is exactly what I am looking for, is there anyone in the US that can weld in some 200 cell cats and for the ones above has anyone done this and did it cause a check engine light ? To me the OEM headers have to be pretty good its the cats that would restrict flow. I can not see Porsche engineers not making a decent set of headers. If would seem that if you had the right kit the header portion may not be necessary ?
