Again this one had Cob tune which I found their website confusing with no hp numbers just graphs. I look into the softronic tune. It reminded of the 3.5 liter eco boost from Ford. Yea it ran like a scalded cat if you waited long enough. I want torque immediately, which is probably only possible with large displacement.

Same experience with Softronic. No lag just linear power to redline

Not sure about "turbo lag" when each turbo is working on 1.5 liters of displacement. If you're experiencing turbo lag with a tune on a 991.2, what's your reference point of no turbo lag? My T came with a FVD tune and when I bury the throttle, it hits light a ton of bricks compared to stock, absolutely no turbo lag.

At what rpm do you cruise?

I shift my PDK manually and keep my cruising revs up towards 3000 rpm. No lag with the COBB. Just blows and goes!
I'm not trying to hypermile with cruising revs below 2000. That turns it into a slug!

I tried FVD tune and lag was definitely an issue for me. Thankfully refunds are an option with some tuners!

Base turbos are tiny so no lag. If anything my APR tune improved throttle response. Add headers and it improves it further. Pulls hard from 2k rpm and it’s a freight train after 4k

991.2 C2 PDK here: lag reduced greatly for my car. Stock cats - muffler delete.

When you say "base," are you referring to the non-S carrera models? Or non capital "T" Turbo models? Wasn't sure if the S and non-S carreras use the same sized turbos.

I was referring to the 991.2 non-S carrera models. Here are the differences:

Base 37.2/49 compressor, 45/40 turbine
CS 39.8/51 compressor 45/40 turbine
GTS 42.9/55 compressor 48/43 turbine

I upgraded from Base to GTS turbos and retuned. Still experienced no lag but I do have a bunch of other mods (headers, cats, inlet tubes, BMC filter etc) which help the larger turbos spool faster.

On the one I drove with the Cobb tune I was on freeway, floored it, waited and waited then took off. Maybe it's not turbo lag, but it isn't a driving characteristic I have any desire to have. I experienced something very similar in a Ford Ecoboost 3.5 liter. Ran like a bat out of hell once it started going, it's the wait that isn't desirable. Actually why I jumped to a 6.7liter diesel. No lag on that one. lol...... The softronic seams to get a lot of great reviews.

Having driven two 991.2 with Softronic and FVD (mine), I'll take the FVD every time. Softronic just not as refined, linear, powerful.

Have the softronic on my T, and throttle response MUCH improved. As far as turbo lag, I don't feel any, and would never know it was a turbo if I didn't know it already. Have a softronic tune on my 981 spyder and am also happy with that. Actually Scott was pretty patient with this computer illiterate when installing them- remoted in and did most of it himself. Was probably tired of my stupid questions...

I think some folks think they are experiencing turbo lag when it's actually the throttle mapping which some tuners mess with and some do not. Throttle position mapped to requested boost can make it seem like it takes a beat for the car to take off while you wait for the turbos to produce the boost requested. Some tuners request more boost at less throttle compared to the stock mapping and that, imho, causes that delayed reaction perception. That's not really turbo lag, it's the tune. If you like how it drives stock ask the tuner to leave the throttle alone. The other component is what RPM you are at when you hit the gas. If the PDK has to drop a few gears and the turbos have to be told by the computer to spool which is controlled by the throttle mapping then it may also take a while. If you are in manual mode the car will stay in whatever gear you are in when you hit it. Obviously if you are in gear at 3k rpms and hit it the car will run. If you are in 7th at 1500 rpms not so much, especially in auto mode...

1Cebitn your description is dead on. So what tuner has the most linear throttle mapping AND maxes out turbo boost? Mine pegs at 12 pig sometimes 13. One I drove hit 15 pig instantly. I guess if hits max boost instantly than you not getting linear.
