Hi friends, I picked up a CPO ‘17 C4 GTS Cab a few months ago sight unseen from a dealer in another state. I was pretty disappointed with the paint condition upon receiving (failed to disclose numerous nicks, chip on windshield, etc.), but otherwise the car is fantastic and a dream to drive. I am super **** about how I care for my cars and see that something is going on with my soft top. It appears to be the outline of the underlying structure/mechanism leaving an imprint in the soft top. This car is not very old, so I am surprised to see this kind of wear on a Porsche. Is this something that can be addressed? If not, any idea whether this is something the CPO warranty would cover?
Thanks in advance!
That's some type of dried salt if I had to guess. White marks on a black fabric is usually the case. I think a good convertible top treatment product will get you back in action.
First time seeing the lighter/grey section, but I'm assuming it's just dirty. I would trying cleaning that part and finding out what got it that way when it folds.
The dark sections are 100% normal. They all look like that (997 and 991's alike). It's just how the top folds when in the down position.
The older Pcars were a pain when they had the plastic rear windows. If you put the top down below 50* it would cause a crease in the window that would be there with you forever.

Is there consensus on a certain brand/type of treatment product? This is my first cab and soft top. Appreciate any insight from those that are already experts!
That's fairly normal cab top wear. It just means the PO enjoyed the car more with the top down I would grab this bundle: (https://www.amazon.com/303-30520-Con...360195&sr=8-12) and a good, soft brush, and go to town on that top.
Try some Griot’s convertible top cleaner, a gentle brush, a pet hair roller, and some Porsche convertible top conditioning spray (mask off the car). It made my top look cleaner and blacker, and also waterproofed it.
I think it's called Raggtop, I've heard a lot of good stuff about them. I know from sitting in the cheap seats (997 forum) that it is best to store it with the top up and dry. I think most people avoid putting it down until it dries completely. If it rains in the morning then gets sunny, I'd leave it up until it gets completely dry, then enjoy the open air driving. My neighbor has a f430 and every time I drive past his garage it's down. It's going to be an expensive repair someday for him.
That would really bother me, but it doesn't look damaged, just dirty.
I used the combo of Raggtop cleaner and 303 fabric guard in the past, this was pretty commonplace in the BMW community.
The other thing is going over with a quality vacuum once a week - embedded dirt could grind into the fibers and either stain or deteriorate the fabric over time.
PS: use cleaner / protectant across the entire top. If you spot clean you'll have uneven coloring. Learned this after a bird poop incident.
Correctomundo!! Raggtop cleaner, Raggtop brush, and Porsche Spray Convertible Fabric Treatment will immensely improve that top. Somebody put it down when dirty and left it down for extended periods of time when not being driven. Always best to store the car with the top up and clean it regularly. Never put it down when wet.
There’s a rather long thread somewhere on here about convertible top wear. It seems like some people get significantly more than others, some have even get stitching breakage or separation. I think a lot has to do with how the top was adjusted when it was installed.
there is also a thread talking about putting self-adhesive cushioned felt pieces under the clamshell (that are supposed to isolate the top fabric from some of the rub points under the clamshell). Only people that I’ve read about who got any kind of warranty relief were very very very good Porsche customers who’s dealers went to bat for them
Another recommendation here for Raggtopp. I had cabriolet versions of a 3.2 Carrera & 993 and loved the Raggtopp protectant. The one I used was an aerosol can. After application, water beads up and runs off the top just like a nicely waxed paint surface. I never had stains so I can’t speak to a good cleaning product but several recommendations in the posts above. And as far as the creasing, I was given the same recommendation as other convertible owners - don’t store in the down position.
