Its a common issue. There is a more extensive discussion on Rennlist about this. Porsche issued a service bulletin telling its dealers not to replace fan under warranty. Problem is for all Porsche 911, Boxster and Caymans from 2012 - 2021. It's Technical Information revised and published on 1/08/2021. The bulletin numbers are TI 8530N0 (SY 72/17).

Thanks for that info.

Super interesting. Makes sense not to replace it if that's all it takes to fix it!

Only a temporary fix. My fan failed twice within a week of high humidity and dew point. Not a good situation when you start your car to return home on a foggy high condensation night and the fan doesn't work making it hard to see. Not feasible to disassemble things at that time.

Anecdotally it seems to fix it for most people. The "run it on full blast for several minutes" makes it make a lot of sense, too. Sucks regardless.

Although I had discovered the fix, I did not know that it was moisture related until this thread.

When it happened to me in FLA, it matched McLaren’s scenario…a day of heavy rain, then the car sat for a few days in typical FLA humidity. After I got it started again, I did not see rain again for several days until we were driving home through the remains of Hurricane Delta in Alabama. We stopped in Birmingham overnight, and rain persisted until morning, but once we hit the road, the fan ran nearly continuously for the next ~12 hours, and the weather cleared so plenty of time for any possible moisture to dissipate.

Now in the New Mexico high desert, its normally very dry and we get little rain. I rarely drive in what we do get so no mystery why I have not seen a recurrence. The car has not been out of the desert SW since. I can definitely see this happening repeatedly in rainy/humid locations for a car that may sit for a few days after rain.

Failed again today, car was sitting for 5 days in humid conditions. I think Porsche has a problem here because as Straka said it's a safety issue with no dehumidifier. The TSB tells the tech to do the fix but what if it fails frequently ?

Simply amazing. My daily driver and other daily drivers before it in almost 50 years have never experienced that and they go through far greater temperature and humidity extremes.

My 17 yr. old Ford F-150 has never had a fan blower problem.

I, too, have experienced a situation in which this problem did not occur.

Helpful, I know.

Call your SA and let them know it's happened multiple times and see if they'll swap it out, assuming your '17 is CPO.

Approaching the request for replacement from a safety standpoint should work. If you continue to live in the same ideal climate that creates this weird condition then the new ones will likely fail too unless there is a revision in the part. Seems like an easy fix rather than just being a dead fan.

Not an easy fix when it fails at night miles from home and your stopped on a 20 mile bridge in the fog. I wonder if Porsche is still using this faulty fan motor in the 992?

My car is a CPO but I see 2 problems getting a replacement. One is I read somewhere Porsche is not paying for a replacement and two if it's the same part will it fix it ? The bottom line on one is if Porsche isn't paying for a replacement the dealer ain't going to do it. I'm going to call Porsche and see what they say.

Yea I know this is a 991 forum, I traded a 991.2 for my 992 so I hope that gives me visiting rights!I have an AC issue with a 2022 992 911 with 2800 miles. My AC blows hot air… not cold at all. The fan is working. Any thoughts before I am compelled to call my dealer because it’s 90 degrees in Philly.

This happened on my 22 Macan. Blew out hot air. SA said this is a recurring problem on the 22's as he has seen it often. He mentioned this and I assume he was talking about Macans, but it may be other models as well.

Turns out the issue was the AC pressure sensor. They replaced that and all has been fine so far.
