Default Quick jack rocking

Anyone else seem to think the car rocks too much up on a quick jack? Feels like the front end is going to flip up on these things. Anyone using them and doing something different?

Mine is solid as a rock. Is yours on level ground?

A quickjack lifts the car at the same points as jackstands would - and the jack points are chosen by Porsche - I wouldn't second-guess this.
Rather, I would take all necessary precautions regarding the surface on which you place the quickjack and the procedure of raising/lowering.
Just like with jackstands, always place something chunky to take the impact in case something bad were to happen - I place the wheels right next to the quickjack under the car.

Yep, but I put a jack stand under the crossmember just to be safe.

so it appears that your lifting opposite of what quick jack instructions are. Maybe that’s the trick, I didn’t see anything about rear engine cars on the qj site.

I use the Porsche recommended Jack points and it felt solid as well.

Very stable. Is this backwards?

I have wondered about this too. What matters is not the jack points but the Quickjack base. Especially at the lower range of lift, the base is very offset from the top, and the tipping point is the end of the base that is under the top. On a 911, I can imagine the CG getting close to this tipping point if the jack direction is "normal".

Just as long as the lock bars are on the outside the instructions do not go into any further detail that I can see.

thats true they don’t. But when you open the boxes, one is labeled left and the other right. Also every picture and video showed them lifting the other way, piston pointing to the front. But again these were all front engine cars.

I lift mine the way the instructions say (opposite of these pictures above). It is solid (no movement), and I do center lock wheel changes.

Yes it rocks.

I put a motorcycle Jack under the rear subframe to stabilize it.

I guess the next question is what blocks are you using? Are you using 1 or 2 blocks (medium and/or tall) and are you placing anything else on them such as the “lifting hockey pucks”? This could also be the cause of rocking.

I believe they label the units so that you don’t get 2 of the same since the release arm is on the outside. You can use QJ perpendicular to the length of the car so the L and R is not necessarily where you need to place it. I use mine with hoses going to the front of the car and the release arms on the outside of the units.
