former 991.2 C2S owner here. Sold the car last summer but now regret it big time (currently in M4 CS and it’s just clunky). Looking to get back into 991.2 (don’t really care much for 992).

I did a search and couldn’t find any major consensus…

Car will be DD and interested in low end torque for the streets. I hated the Tesla that would kill me in a straight line (and probably will continue to do so despite mods). Will also put on headers, sports cats, exhaust, etc.

having said above, what are recommendations between T vs S vs GTS for tuning and most low end torque? Will keep stock turbos on unless recommissions against this.

Have have .2 base with Apr 93 tune and DSC. I love it and track it 4 times a year. Ferrodo pads. I wish I had S brakes but my local track isn’t that bad on them. Prob not worth extra money. I haven’t missed the lsd yet. For the money base is awesome with time. I keep up with GT3 unless the are pros. Same with Turbos.

 

Base will get the most out of the tune going to roughly 450hp - same as stock GTS power. Tune on a GTS will less gains but more power since the GTS has larger turbos.
A lot of good info online from GIAC, APR & FVD. I have FVD 93 tune on my C2 991.2 and it REALLY opens it up. Not just peak power but overall drivability and throttle response.

 

Go with something that has an lsd that aligns with your power goals. Any track time planned, mainly street car, etc?

T 7MT with PCCB would be my choice given your goals, followed by a GTS 7MT with PCCB.

Good choice. I have a Carrera T. Only mods are Cobb custom tune by BBI and DSC. Its an amazingly fun and fast set up.

I also had a C4S with the same tune. It was uninspiring over stock honestly.

My vote is t or gts. T as it has lsd and if you want more power you can upgrade turbos. Gts for for if you want bigger power out of the gate and you probably don’t care to upgrade turbos.

It depends on your goals but I have a tuned T that is otherwise stock. Its a little monster. On the street I really don't want or need more power.

I agree with others above. T or GTS. Manual. I would not bother with any other 991.2 trim unless you are considering a GT car, targa or vert.

I have base brakes on my T. If I had to go back in time I would have ordered PCCB's.

The back brakes are identical across all 991.2 carreras. The front brakes are larger on the S and GTS.

 

PCCB aren't necessary on a street car. If you have carte blanche with the budget - go for it.

 

I'd take a slightly different approach. Look at the rest of the "features" of the car - sometimes you're going to be more interested in whether the car has 18 way seats and sound system and sun/moon roof, 7MT vs PDK, SPASM vs PASM, RAS vs not RAS, and so on vs whether it is a T or S or GTS. For the requisite amount of money, *any* of them can be tuned and turned into a monster. If you really want to, you can replace the brakes with something like what XLR82XS did - custom solution IIRC - or what I did (AP Racing BBK kit), and you can replace a T or an S's turbos with the APR K04.3 turbo + stage 3 kit or whatever.

So start with finding a car that is closest to your overall desired spec and price point, regardless of whether it is a base, T, S or GTS, and go from there.

 

Very good point. All .2 cars ( base, T, S or GTS) are tunable, but only experience (or maybe research) makes you realize we all have some MUST-Have options that are either extremely difficult/expensive or hard to do after the fact.
I have recently learned an expensive lesson regarding PDK Vs manual, so if a manual car is more fun and closer to pure Enthusiast spec for you then start there. RAS is another one that Porsche introduced in .1 GT3 is going to be more and more common on 992 and beyond cars, I personally Love the look and stance of an S-PASM car, far less expensive to get an SPASM car then to add good quality Coilovers later, Glass sunroof with open feel Vs metal sunroof like older 911s etc etc

Research the options, and then find the closest car like enzotcat said. Good luck
