Frunk lid support replacement
Hi All,
So, knew mine were less supportive than required, so evaluated options - after recently replacing my OEM Chinese driver window switch assembly with a Chinese window switch assembly. I chose the low cost option and bought from Amazon with an order placed on 22 Jan 22.
Went to capture the link to the item, buy listing says "Currently Unvailable" for some reason - just order on 22 Jan and received and installed today.
Here's the link:
Price was $20.99 plus tax for total $22.56.
Easy to swap - about 10 minutes total, mainly supporting hood so I could safely change them struts. Waay easy.
The exact fit is a bit fuzzy, but these were the most ordered!

Yep - here's link with photos of the OEM Chinese switch assembly - with Porsche barcode. And, the aftermarket Chinese switch assembly with on "EH" marking on the switch, but with the box clearly marked China.

I've gotta think a lot of these Chinese parts are just fine. I've toured a few factories in China and it's incredible to see how many OEM brands they're manufacturing for. Some of them openly admitted that they'll produce "extra" parts that don't go to the OEM, but they're identical and just sold on a secondary market. Pretty much the same idea as generic drugs vs brand name

Sure - lots of Chinese sourced items are great.
The point in these cases, however, is that most Porsche owners have an expectation their very expensive, oft-touted high quality cars - their cars won't be full of the same parts found on the cheapest cars.
And, the secondary point is that when replacing said parts, a part like the switch assembly which could be $3 to them in quantity since they are the same as those that are found in baseline VWs, etc.
BUT, and here's a side point - I don't hear anything about switch assemblies like these breaking on a LOT of other, far more mass-produced cars - so, perhaps Porsche-Chinese is lower quality than Subaru-Chinese or Nissan-Chinese? I don't know who makes those manufacturer parts, but they apparently don't fail like the Porsche parts ...

Stabilus is a quality/oft OEM manufacturer that you can order from O’reilly. Search on “lift support.” I need a set too. Got a set for my M3 which is a special part for the lightweight hood on that car that anywhere else was near $100 each for $17.99.
