On another note, ADMINS, can you make the door panel issue a sticky ? it comes up like it's a new thing once a week ;-)

 

Has there ever been any statement by Porsche about this? It seems that Pedro for short $$ is the best approach or suffer the same fate if I keep the car 4 years after new panels are installed.

 

According to my dealer CPO is not going to fix a "cosmetic" issue. It seems there was a big run on this part and they got stingy. It has to be a functional failure to be covered. Of course Im not done with this and will dig a bit deeper.

 

Not to be facetious but can the panel be glued back if it is a cosmetic issue?

 

Mine were warped when I bought it, and the dealership replaced them as part of the CPO without me even saying a word. Took about a month for the panels to come in from Germany, but I think the bill would have been somewhere around $4500 otherwise. I'd definitely pursue it under CPO. I think others have tried to glue it back down, and it doesn't work. So its either replacing them, or going through the spot named above.

 

The issue here is with the low VOC glues used on this part. Eventually all of them will fail if they spend any time in the heat. Pedro has written a nice bit on this:

Yes, it is considered cosmetic but it is replaced under CPO if your service advisor advocates for you. It is one of those discretionary actions not set in stone

 

B Russ…..you need to find another p car dealer. Mine were replaced under CPO and yours are worse than mine were. Many others on this forum have had their door panels replaced under CPO. Start raising hell. it’s a $5000 fix.

 

I have been treading lightly to see how this was going to be handled at my closest dealer. If I dont get satisfaction I will go to the dealer I bought it from and see how that goes.

 

Even if dealer replaces it the new door panel will still have the water based adhesive and it’ll just fail again. Been there done that. Pedro at Pedro’s Garage does a correct and permanent fix and it’s very reasonably priced (much less than door panel replacement).

 

Everyone should read the full story on this at Pedros. The issue is explained why it happens (eco-friendly glues by order of German government) which means it will happen to any replacement parts too.

Pedro has no qualms about using the good products to fix it permanently so it seems. So if the rest of the door panel looks good, and you want to keep the car a long time, save/find some big boxes and ship it to him. If you aren't keeping it a long time, see if you can get it replaced under warranty and hope it doesn't happen again before you sell it.

And for those who want to "fix" the problem on their own: be careful! The airbags come out of there and if you don't know exactly what you are doing you might affect their deployment.

 

I dont usually keep these cars much after CPO but I dont really know my plan for this one. It appears for pretty short $$ Pedro is the way to go and if I decide to keep this car it becomes a non issue going forward. 2 options, finding appropriate size boxes and ship them or take the 2.5 hour ride up there with an excuse to spend a night cruising around Tampa while he works his magic. This all because I didint do enough research on full leather interior vs non. Thanks for all the input.

 

Kinda of amazes me (though not really) that Porsche would not fix an issue that is clearly their fault. What is worse is that there is no clear policy regarding it - some dealership will fix free of charge under warranty/CPO and others will not.

Total BS.

Porsche obviously does not stand behind its product.

No one to blame but us who keep buying.

 

So if it is due to the type of glue used, why doesn’t it seem to be an issue with the two-tone interiors? Is a different adhesive used?
