Default Brake Rotor Bolt Torque Specs

Hello all,

I've done a search and have definitely found specs on the bolt. Some even report the specs are different from front to rear. However, as you can imagine I've seen specs from 63 pounds to hand tight. the 63 pound was for a 991 4S and did say not for base Carrera model. All I'm doing is installing new 5mm spacers on all corners purchased from Suncoast. Not sure if it's that big of a deal being the kit came with all new lugs and I will use 125 pound spec on those Here is what I have

2012.5 Carrera Base Cabriolet
5mm spacers
Doing spacers front and rear (if there is a torque spec difference)

Thank you for the help. I'm a newbie in the 991 world. Came over from the 993.

You mean the screw? As tight as you can get it with a screwdriver. It just holds the rotor to the hub while you are installing the wheel. The wheel bolts are what holds the rotor and wheel on.

Yes I do mean the screw. Understand that the wheel bolts are the important part here, but wanted to see if there was a spec for the rotor. Will just get it as tight as possible if I don't get the spec. Thanks for the reply.

Absolutely no reason to go crazy on that screw. Hand tight, and you're good. The service manual says 10Nm / 7.5 ft lbs.

Curious as to how feel about moving from the 993 to the 991. I've been thinking about going the other way to get into more of a classic car. But I love my 991.

Please a dab of never seize on that dam screw if you are replacing.

I have a love hate relationship with those over the years.

A knocker screwdriver helps.

+1 to above on antiseize and a hammer screwdriver as a backup.

Hello Wolpertinger,

First, Thank you for the data. Secondly, regarding the 993 question. I've had many 993's, one 997 an my current 991.1

The good on a 993
1. A true driver's car
2. The smell of leather and oil after a drive is surely missed
3. Working on the car was simple as I feel the car was made not only for an enthusiast, but a person that could wrench on their own car without a scan tool by their side or worrying about tripping a light
4. You don't see a 993 everyday and they remain a bit uncommon.
5. The pride of ownership seems deeper with a 993 than my 991. The air cooled crowd waves or flashes lights when passing each other. I haven't seen this with a 991 or 997, but I am new to the car.
6. I restored (more of a strong refresh) a 95 993 in Riviera Blue/Black Cabriolet and did most of the process myself. The car is not complicated

The good on my 991 compared to the 993
1. You can take the 991 anywhere whether a long or short trip
2. The amenities in the car make it a joy to drive. Stereo, AC, heated seat, power wind deflector, performance, PDK etc...
3. The looks of the 991 compared to a 993 are very nice to me though comparing the 2 really isn't fair because they are different cars
4. There is a bit much on the electronics side for me on the 991, but the car is still new to me so not enough history. I still get confused going through all the screens.
5. The 991 seems to be put together with a stronger mindset towards manufacturing and production where the 993 felt like it was purpose built if that makes sense

I've always been happy with whatever Porsche I've had and am lucky to have one. Hope this helps. By the way the car I miss most behind my Riviera blue 95 Cab was a 92 964 America Roadster in Black Metallic/Tan. That was a great car as well.

Thank you again for the specs provided.

Mike

Thanks Mike! I've never driven a 993, so I'm going to have to have a look and drive when it's ready for sale. Good luck with the brake job!

Thanks all for the advice on the rotor screw. Thankfully the original screws came out with minimal effort. The car is a 2012 with just turning 40K so I'm sure it was all original and easy to get off. the longer screws that come with the OE 5mm spacers definitely got a dab of anti seize. As far as the looks of the wheels being out further you can see a minimal difference but there is a different look. I did it on all 4 corners. Thanks again for the tips.

Throw those screws in the trash can it reduces unsprung weight. If you do replace them I also agree Anti Seize so they come out next time.

I own a G-body SC and a 991.1. I can relate with some of what you mentioned above, BUT I have never driven a 964 or 993 (yet!). My goal is to eventually own one of those, but I really would like a 993.....one day....
