Default Reliable source for PIWIS 3 Clone?

I purchased from a PIWIS 3 clone from VXDAS and long story short, they straight up ripped me off 🙄

Does anyone have a reliable sources for a PIWIS 3 clone? I already have a laptop so I don't need the full suite - just the SSD and OBD scanner/reader.

There is no such thing as a PIWIS clone. Durametric is great and the best you can get.

Semantics. Cloned, bootlegged, stolen, warez'd, it's all the same in the end. An illegal copy of an extremely expensive piece of hardware and software.

Can you erase all CEL/Faults that have been stored in the past on the PIWIS? Reason I ask is because I'd like to do this on my car before a dealer sees and logs this crap. Not because there's something catastrophic to hide, but my service advisor got nasty and bad-mouthed my mods when I complained about the poor slop job they did on my car during it's last visit... I do not trust my service advisor or the dealership.

AlexZTuned,

Take a look at this thread PIWIS 3 Your best option at this point is building your own PIWIS 3 using your laptop, SSD and OBD reader. JB911 seems to have the latest info in the thread.

Why would anyone use a computer clone on an a 120k car’s software? Are they that expensive to be worth it? What is clone? A device whose intellectual property was ripped off?

The PIWIS is the dealership tool used to talk to the various modules in the car. Beyond maintenance tasks (relearning adaptations, resetting oil change indicators, initiating clutch wear calibration, pulsing the ABS for proper brake flushing, etc.) it can also recode.

As far as I'm aware, Porsche will not sell you, a consumer, a PIWIS. They cost something like $20k or $25k and have a recurring charge on top of that, which is why most indy shops don't even have legit ones.

The "clone" people talk about is a stolen copy of the software from a real PIWIS, usually put in development mode or cracked so it won't call home. This removes its ability to push updates to the car, but retains the ability to talk to all the modules for maintenance purposes -- just like any modern shop tablet.

Exactly. I am formally trained as a software engineer and can tell you this is a terrible idea for so many reasons..........

LOL I studied CS and hire the top .05% of software engineers and can tell you that I have a hacked PIWIS II and it's one of the best investments I made. I can code modules, clear ALL CEL's, Read EVERY module and their exact error codes, run all the Diag routines for coolant flush (there are like 5 pumps in the 991) and check PDCC and run those calibration routines (I have a PDCC car). I recently replaced my finicky throttle body and could perform the factory calibration for that too. - Porsche would have charged at least $250 to run that simple function.

It can also activate individual functions in the car like door latches etc to help troubleshoot AND it has wiring diagrams for EVERYTHING as a reference.

The main things it CANNOT do that the factory approved/subscribed one can do is code new keys, and activate certain features that require factory activations codes and anything else that needs to talk to the Porsche Servers.

Is the factory tool better? OF COURSE But the hacked one is about 1/28th the initial purchase price and ZERO subscription fee. And allows me to do routine maintenance, diag etc. Def worth it for me.

But if you can get porsche to sell you an official PIWIS as a non shop owner (I assume you don't own a shop) and willing to pay the tens of thousands for the subscription, more power to you.

NOTE: Many independent Porsche shops run an Autel or Hacked PIWIS

Curious to hear your "many reasons".

I have news for you. The top 0.05% of software engineers don't work for anyone :-)

There's a thread about all the PIWIS options available over in the Cayman forum somewhere. .. I don't know, but a Durametric, or other OBD2 device would do most of what a clone does, unless you're going to do some serious re-programming.
